ATF Classifying AR15 uppers as firearms!

If this holds true, that uppers are firearms, they are going to piss off some parts of the firearm community that have very deep pockets, IE for example all those guys with registered MAC's that are buying Lage uppers. This could mean that a Lage upper would be considered a serialized firearms, and thus a machine gun, which would mean that it would be not allow, sinced it's a post 86' machine gun.

ETA: Harbor Firearms is gonna take a HUGE hit with this. I can't imagine 50cal uppers are flying off the shelf to begin with but now that you have to go through all the trouble of an FFL there will be even less interest in getting one. Anyone that was on the fence about getting one has now had the decision made for them. Just the government hard at work again ruining another good honest American company.

I am against any new gun regulations and this is the type of BS that was not supposed to happen under a Republican administration-(though pathetically the last five supported gun control measures in one form or another: Nixon, Ford, Reagan, Bush41, Bush43), that stated I am surprised that this was not already classified a receiver.

If you remove the bolts that hold the triggerguard, then the pins on the trigger and sear of a Mauser 98 barreled receiver, it looks like what Safety Harbor is selling, again I will plead ignorance on the product but this does not look like a regular smg upper from a parts kit.

I challenge ANY person at the ATF to make a .50 BMG upper fire without the lower.

By this definition, any upper is now a firearm.

Funny you say this because I was just fondling my pps43 last night and the upper is the receiver. On a pps43 the upper is simply rolled sheet metal riveted to a trunion which holds the barrel. All the action happens in the lower. It makes no sense but I suspect it has to do with the lower which works from an open bolt and so many are/were let into the country that they had to do something after they fucked up. Anyway, this isn't the case here. The AR's receiver has always been the firearm. I don't get why the ATF all of the sudden wants to make just a 50 cal variant upper serialized. I can only think since it's probably one of the least common uppers they can test the waters without pissing too many people off. If it works then they have precedent. Testing the waters is the new trend it seems. Just like with the slide fire.

That is the crazy part, a P08 Luger can fire with just the upper but the lower is the "handgun."

The AR's receiver has always been the firearm.

But an AR has two receivers.
Traditionally the LOWER is the serialed 'firearm' as it contains the fire control mechanism, ie: the trigger/sear/etc.

The UPPER receiver has always just been a mount point for the barrel, recoil spring, and, in most cases, the stock. This part never required a serial number, though many seem to have one, and never needed to go through an FFL.

After how many decades, they want to change it NOW?
