Ive been out of the loop lately but got a big surprise today.
Went to Runnings in Jamestown NY to buy a handgun. After I picked the gun I wanted and after handing the clerk my drivers license and NYS pistol permit, she asked of I had anything with my middle name spelled out. I said no but had multiple government issued documents with my name and address.....drivers license, NYS pisol permit, PA pistol permit, car insurance, car registration......but none spelled out my middle name, just had initial.
She said it was a new federal law that to buy a gun you must have a government issued document with your middle name spelled out.
She said I could go to their customer service and buy a 1 day fishing license for $5 and have them spell out my middle name.
I asked her, "So if I come back here with a fishing license that has "Sylvester" spelled out, I can buy a gun?"
She said YES!!
Thats very odd because my middle name is not Sylvester I told her.
But how would they know, they would be taking my word for it. All my documents just say "S".
Anyways, is this a law or not?
