Unfortunately, one of the tricky parts of casting metal is that the metal shrinks as it cools, so what ever you use as a pattern has to be big enough to compensate for the shrinkage (hahaha! That's what she said! ).

So you kind of have to make it from scratch twice. Monkeyface's boot licker is motivating me to put in the effort though.

How about just starting with an 80% blank as a pattern, then adding a temporary layer or 2 of bed liner to it to build it up to compensate for the shrinkage?
