NEW YORK – In her ongoing efforts to protect New Yorkers from gun violence and keep communities safe, New York Attorney General Letitia James is hosting the first-ever statewide community gun buyback in New York on Saturday, April 29. This one-day statewide initiative will feature nine simultaneous gun buyback events held across the state, at which the Office of the Attorney General (OAG) will accept — with no questions asked — working and non-working, unloaded firearms in exchange for compensation on site. The OAG provides money in the form of prepaid gift cards when a gun is received and secured by law enforcement officers on site.

Working in partnership with local law enforcement agencies and leaders, Attorney General James is hosting the gun buybacks on Saturday, April 29, at the following times and locations:

I've got junk that I wouldn't/shouldn't shoot that's of no historical or collectors value... $500. for the first one, and $150. for the second, well if someone comes along with me to "turn one in" they too would get $500. since it's anonymous, who's to say if I've already been there.
Geez I wish I'd kept all those defective receivers; could have made them into non-functional assault weapons.

Replace the stock with a pistol grip or whittle it down to a goose-neck style grip that can't be shouldered and it's illegal now though. Not as an assault weapon though, as an "other." I'm sure the folks running the event are clueless, just use a black polymer pistol grip and claim the assault weapon bounty.

They give you a somewhat blank receipt for it, it includes make model and serial number and the officer signs it saying they accepted it. Been there and done it.

I’ve been to a couple of these in the past in hopes of purchasing from little old ladies. There is Always law enforcement present and one of them is an armorer who checks the functionality of the firearms.

From previous experience, the people there can't tell a working gun from a "non-working" gun unless it's missing obvious parts, sure can't test them.
Some people find it reprehensible to sell guns to the idiocy passing for Government, and to a degree the may have a point; for someone with many multiple guns, many of which of low quality, the premise of disposal actually becomes an issue.
