I don't understand the situation with Austrailians. My father fought in New Guinea during WW2. He often spoke about how tough and ruthless the Aussies were with the Japanese.
When the Aussies fought with us in Vietnam my understanding is that they only counted an enemy as dead if they could actually see the dead body. I believe our body count numbers were sometimes based on less concrete evidence (any Vietnam vets please correct me if I am wrong on this).
So how did these free citizens meekly hand over their guns to the government back in the 1990's? They elected the officials who passed the laws which disarmed them. Wtf happened to these folks?

It's the curse of the British Empire. Once, they were a feared military (especially naval) power, and despite hailing from a small island nation, went toe to toe with anyone who challenged them. Several hundred years, and many lost colonies later, they've lost the will to stand up for themselves and have settled for being nice, and meek, and attempting to not offend anyone. Many of their former territories have followed in their footsteps, Australia included, and our liberal politicians are doing their damnedest to railroad us down that track as well.
