I've got a 686 that's missing a rear sight and a couple other parts --- does that count?
I'm in my 70's and I have firearms that were purchased by me or given as presents by my parents long before 4473's were thought of. I also have my Dad's
guns after he passed away in 1968. I know most of my friends are in similar circumstances and BATF has no idea of any of these.
As far as survey data I'm sure I and everyone on here would make sure they took an accurate count before answering any survey...

For many owners guns are like tools, and you need different tools for different jobs: a rifle for hunting deer. A shotgun for hunting duck. A pistol for self-defense. An AR-15 for fun. Etc.

wishful thinking to make the claim gun ownership is still dropping and all the guns are being bought by the same people. I have 3 people on the hook to buy their first guns ... I'll turn them one by one.

finishing December strong,, added a shotgun for my boy, a 38 ultralite stubnose for me, and tonight we just bought a S&W bodyguard for the wife..

Just more BS. There are *many* more new gun owners than ever. I've trained 8 new firearm owners since November. One local club had over 20 new members at a recent orientation. That's a common thing. Club memberships are up, sales of things firearm related are way up, etc.

The surveys are definitely skewed by people not wanting to answer random surveys about guns in their homes today. I sure as hell wont answer any questions of some random chump asking questions on a cold call. Hell, I dont even answer a number that's not programmed into my Contacts. I don't understand why someone would get nervous about the # of firearms an enthusiast owns. Unless you're a mutant with more than 2 hands, the most you can fire at any one time, and still be mobile, is 2 (and its debatable how accurate you're going to be with that non-dominant hand firearm). So if I own 20 firearms, how am I any more "dangerous" than if I only own 2?
Uninformed people watch Boondock Saints or the Matrix and believe that someone can fire 2 firearms at once and gun down swaths of people in a matter of seconds....the reality is supposedly well-trained cops shoot 1 primary firearm all the time in gunfights and they miss like crazy. Adrenaline and stress is a bigger factor in practical accuracy than most people realize.
As for more "gun" owners owning more firearms nowadays....doesn't surprise me. If you're just a casual pistol target shooter and hunter, there's easily 3 right there: pistol, bolt action rifle, pump-action or semi-auto shotgun. When I started buying firearms, I told myself it would be one and done. Now I'm several beyond that mark, and I'm by no means a collector.
