Back to a double stack for me.

Stopped at Wolcotts and did an impulse buy. Ruger american compact 9mm. It just feels like it was formed for my hand. Three grip sizes to fit anyone, and it is very comfortable and points nicely. Held it and had to take it home. Trigger is very nice and crisp, I'm guesstimating right at 6 lbs. Reset is a bit long, but that doesn't bother me. Ambi controls, the only real down side for some might be the weight at 29 ounces but I actually prefer a gun with a bit of heft.

Truglo tfx installed today. Need to decide on ammo for this and get to the range. I run winchester defend in the lc9s, and thinking about going for federal hst 124 in this one. What do you think @Willjr75, you do all the 9mm ballistics studying. 3.52" barrel

I don't use hollow points anymore for reasons I stated in another thread. I use solid coppers.

However, if you want to use hollow points, Federal HST 124 gr Standard Pressure is the best bet going. Even more so then the Gold Dots based on the gel tests I've seen. They penetrate the deepest out of their 9mm line compared to the 124 gr +P and both the 147 gr standard pressure and +P.

They aren't velocity dependent on expansion either. There a YouTube guy who shot one at 440 yards from a carbine into a ballistic gel torso and it still expanded at that range with the lost velocity.

Yes. If I remember correctly, with the standard pressure, an average of 5 shots penetrated 16 inches compared to the other ones that averaged out at 12 to 13 inches. An extra 3 to 4 inches is an extra 3 to 4 inches and it could make a difference depending on the angle it hits the body or the barrier it goes through beforehand.

I like HST. Good for sure but I'd have to give the edge to critical duty. I carry critical defense.

Critical defense is great. Friend's LC9 preferred the 124 grain bullet.

No way Critical Defense is better than HST. They penetrate less. Critical Duty penetrates more but you need a minimum of a 4 inch barrel or else they don't expand and behave like ball rounds.

Critical defense isn't a bonded bullet so it's not a fair comparison to begin with. So you would have to compare Duty vs HST. But anyway this isn't a ballistics thread. Who's going to single stacks this winter? Like a 1911? And by 1911 I mean 45ACP because anything else isn't a 1911.

Let me know how it goes when you shoot it. I shied away from it and went with an M&P. The beavertail was touching the knuckle on my thumb and I thought it would hit and become uncomfortable when fired.

It's not bonded like most bonded are. They somehow lock the jacket to the core though. It behaves like a bonded bullet.

Me too. I've put quite a few critical duty boxes down range. My handguns feed them great and they're accurate as well. They perform the way they were intended.

I think the Duty is better because I value penetration. It gets like 22 inches. The only thing is that you need a 4 to 5 inch barrel for expansion as seen in that video.

Too slow for my tastes. It's like 800 fps. Less through a 3 inch barrel. You lose hard barrier penetration due to the slow velocity and you don't gain much benefit from high grain's momentum in penetration of soft tissue because the hollow point parachutes to a stop anyway.

I run single stacks most of the year. I run a double stack para 1911 when I am feeling frisky but other than that I stick with the single stack plus 2 mags.
