Back to the 1911

Well the cooler weather is here and I thought I'd switch my carry gun for a while.

I never really carried owb, so I grabbed my fobus tactical evolution holster for the beretta and tossed in the 1911. (fits perfectly) I have used this holster here and there for little bits of time, but this is the first I've used it for all day carry. First thing I noticed is the weight of the beastly 1911. I've been carrying a ruger lc9s daily for the last year or so and don't even know it's there. I go to Walmart for some dog food and dropped some change. Oops, picking up change exposed the muzzle of the 1911 from under my quilted flannel. Back in the car, I sit down and the seat belt latch is catching and pushing my gun up. Now I'm aggravated because I can't carry my favorite gun without it being a nuisance. I go home and grab my galco king tuk. What a difference! No more weight pulling my side, nothing to catch holster, and much more comfy to me.

Moral of the story is owb is definitely not for me. Anything larger than the single stack 9 's and I'll be using a hybrid holster. I forgot how comfortable they are with the larger, heavier guns.

The real question is how will you defend yourself when attacked by a frying pan? Everyone knows 9mm is superior to 45 ACP. Now the pot has been stirred back to the OP's intent of the thread.

I very much would like to carry my 1911 but the weight is prohibitive to me. I find it very interesting to hear how much the proper holster helped in this regard.

When carrying my 45 I'm always wearing my "no frying pan allowed" hat.

Yes, the right holster makes a huge difference.

+1 for iwb king Tuk for my full size sr1911 winter wear only when I feel the urge to not carry my trusty sp101

A good leather holster (and belt)will make the 1911 stay tight to you and be much more comfortable than iwb carry.

I carry OWB only in the summer it is a 3 inch Kimber in the winter it is a 4 or 5 inch Ruger /Springfield respectively. I would recommend you get a Fobus for your 1911 it may fit in your beretta's Fobus holster but not like it will in one specifically made for your 1911.
Carrying the 1911 is not for the faint of heart. It does weigh a lot more than a wonder nine and you have to have a good holster and belt combo to make it stay put. You could always get suspenders to help reduce the effect of gravity as well.

The paddle type Fobus holster is more about convince than anything else. A holster that has belt loops will keep it tighter to your body and the weight won't feel as significant. Paddle holsters cannot ever feel as secure as a leather one that has the proper belt running through it.

I do love the convenience of the fobus. Nice quick draw also, just not something I'd wear around the clock.
