Well after a slow ride down the shore today we finally made it to Backwoods Trophy Outfitters in Ahoskie, NC around 1600 today.

The lodge was empty when we roller in and the hunters before us left cash right out on the table. Learned pretty quickly that we’re in a different world down here.

One of the guides showed up with flips flops and shorts, but no teeth. Told us the head honcho would be by in a bit so make ourselves at home. Then he left lol.

The lodge is awesome. Really nice. I’ll post some pics afterwards. They’re super laid back here, that’s for sure.

They don’t provide dinner the first day so we hit up walmart for some food and alcohol. White Claw today baby. They already made fun of my car so all bets are off now lol. I brought the Balvenie though to save some of my manhood.

Heading out in the am. Lets see what happens...

Well tons of action in the afternoon but no shots. Just tracked and helped drag a first time hunter’s doe.

Best I saw was a 7pt. If he comes back tomorrow he’s going down.

Had great action this morning but all small deer so I passed on a couple of shots. No bucks today for me. My cousin took a cool looking slightly-piebald 4pt that the owner told him to shoot if he saw it. My other buddy missed a buck that he thinks was a 6.

Two more hunts. I’m regretting passing on the 7 but it is what it is now. Hopefully better luck tomorrow.

Our cousin who lives in Raleigh drove 2 1/2 hours to have lunch with us and now my Army buddy is here spending the night. The owner got such a kick out of it - “You damned Yankees have friends everywhere!” - that he offered to feed and give them a bed for the night for free. My cousin had to leave though.

I've always wanted to do an elk hunt out west. One where they pack you in. I wouldn't even care if I got an elk. I would just love being out there and having the experience.

My younger brother recently moved to Co, and I mentiin to my pops we should all go elk hunting out there. My bro kinda lost his mojo for hunting but it would be a great time for us to all hangout. Ive been binge watching elk, moose and bear hunting videos from out west and up north.

They quarter them for you. They do it much differently here. Waste a TON of meat. My cousin did some of it himself to keep more meat. He’s dropping it at a butcher when we get home to be finished. If I get one, I’m finishing it myself.
