I agree. I know that NYS has been trying to find a way to ban the .50 BMG but every attempt wound up including other guns and nothing ever got passed. When Canada passed their ban a couple years ago, they acomplished it by using a joules of energy threshold. That had me worried that NYS would finally figure out how to get their ban through, but as far as I know, no such ban has been passed.

According to that, even .50 cal muzzle loaders are illegal and can't be bought, sold or possessed.

This I know from experience, since I happen to own one of those incredibly powerful and evil ( because it's black ) .50 BMG rifles : They will NOT vaporize your entire body. Having shot woodchucks from a VERY long distance, I can tell you that there is very little damage to the carcass. The round is so incredibly powerful that it just goes straight through. Which of course is disappointing, since the only reason I bought the gun was so I could watch stuff explode like it does on TV.

I've had a .58 cal Zouave since the late 70's....take it our every once in a while to drive off the mosquitos in a one acre area...never could hit shit with it, but it's fun to shoot.
Old Black Powder Cartridge guns are fun...FOOM!.....................................................................................................................................................WHAP!
Big Magnums are fine, high-speed, low-drag, hot little rockets, are all great, but there's just something deeply satisfying of literally watching 2-3-4-5 hundred grains of soft lead flying down range and schmucking the target at the end....'course I DO like watching 647gr API's obliterate non-compliant Propane tanks too!

A well off friend owned a Barrett semi 50 cal........ The muzzle blast from the brake was nuts..........it hit me in the nose like I got punched. The link says that even owning a 50 BMG cartridge is illegal..........I am sure thousands of NY'er have one.

Further research says that the NYS Senate Bill is still in committee and the Assembly bill is also not active.

It may be possible to buy a bolt 50 cal yet...................I am sure the NYSP NICS check will approve it instantly...........
