Our Medical system is part to blame for this. Prescriptions are handed out like skittles. Consumers then go out to chase "the rainbow."
I watch people open their little plastic boxes with daily marked compartments labeled Mon-Sun. I can see all the colors .....

It wouldn't be as bad if pharmaceutical companies couldn't advertise. People see the ads and say "I have those symptoms" then go to their doctor saying they want such and such a drug because they saw the ad for it.

Not to say this stuff is being over prescribed and no one has a clue of the true long term effects but they still hand it out like candy.

Valium is NOT a SSRI, its a benzodiazepine. Entirely different class of drug that works in a completely different way.
