Too dangerous.Well I'll be damned. When do we get wrist-braced slingshots?
Too dangerous.
Sometimes this state surprises me. First [ground only] fireworks legal, now this.

It's the moment you lost grip of a steak knife , the instant it leaves your hand allowing gravity to take force but before your soon to be bloody toe stops it..Honestly don't even know what a gravity knife is or who makes one.
Sure. New York had no law against butterfly knives/balisongs to begin with, so they were already legal. But some of them got swept up as "gravity knives". They aren't, because a gravity knife is defined to "lock into place" and a butterfly knife normally doesn't do that. There were still people who got arrested and jailed for that and some only got overturned on appeal.can i buy a butterfly knife ( balisong ) now ..
The classic German gravity knife is one where you'd push a button and point the knife down and the blade falls out of the handle and locks into place.Honestly don't even know what a gravity knife is or who makes one.
Cuomo explained his change of heart by saying the ‘legal landscape has changed.’
He was “constrained to veto similar bills” in 2016 and 2017, Cuomo said, because of the “uniform opposition of the state’s law enforcement entities and mayors.” This included Mayor Bill de Blasio and Police Commissioner James O’Neill, who were dealing with an uptick in slashings and stabbings in 2016, especially around clubs and bars on weekends.
but assisted opening knives are still regarded as switchblades throughout NY state.
Sorry if I offend any thin blue liners, but I know a lot of NYPD cops love getting an easy collar for gravity knives.https://brooklyneagle.com/articles/2019/05/30/after-7-year-push-gravity-knives-are-decriminalized/
Stabbing someone is illegal regardless. Law enforcement's job is to be concerned with the people slashing other people, not the knives themselves which people have a right to carry.
Also, I really doubt it was "wide spread opposition." There's opposition from the traitors that run the city, but I doubt regular LEOs really think knives are the top priority that the force should be worried about down there.
kniferights.org has a couple pages dedicated to this on their site, but assisted opening knives are still regarded as switchblades throughout NY state. NYC still limits blade length to under 4" - and "must be completely concealed", = 'no visible pocket clip'. It's a wonder they don't limit New York residents to just using spoons for eating utensils!
That was based on a court of appeals decision last year that upheld a conviction based on a knife found on a guy riding on the subway. The majority opinion had no explanation for why it met the statutory definition.I was unaware a side opening assisted knife (eg SOG Flash II) was a switchblade. Or auto knife. Glad I’m always fishing. I guess.
