Last week I sent my m&p15-22 bbl out to get threaded. The guy doing it is a local guy, but far enough away that it's worth just sending the barrel in and back. Well, he sends me a text last Saturday that it was all done and shipping out that day. He included a picture of the ups label as well. Great news, that was faster than I thought. Well...the tracking has never updated. It stayed at "label created" for 5 days. I've been in contact with the threader and he said ups has been weird about scanning, but that he hasn't had an issue with things showing up for clients.
I guess, when you pre print a shipping label and use a store or in this case a drop box, things don't always get scanned in.
So now he has opened a claim and the tracking now shows that an investigation is open to try and find my package.
I want to believe this guy is honest and isn't trying to keep my barrel. I don't know what the motive would be anyway. But the whole thing is just weird.
The stories of ups throwing out gun related packages comes to mind, but I don't think there was much to give the package contents away. Plus, if he is being honest, this hasn't happened to him.
At this point I have very little hope I'll get my barrel back. I managed to find a factory one at numrich, which I bought. Along with an extention, pins and ejector.
Problem is, I don't think the barrel comes with the scallops for the pins that hold the extention on cut in. Also the extention isn't drilled for the pins. So I'll have to figure that out now. My only other options are to go with an expensive carbon fiber sleaved match bbl, or perhaps reach out to Smith&Wesson, explain the situation and see if they will sell me a completed bbl assembly.
This just sucks.
