So, first a little background. I have a NYC/Staten Island drivers licence, and own a home there. I also own a home in NJ, where i am currently residing, full time, for about 4 years. I also own a Cabin on 27 acres of rural upstate Catskill land.
Over the years, i have legally been able to get my permits in upstate NY, my home permit in NYC and i have my pistol and FID in NJ as well.I was able to prove residency in every place, including continued, as i own all the properties and they are in my name, so tax bills, mortgages statements, utilities bills, etc have been and are always available when needed. Also extra background checks were done, which was mostly more time consuming, since especially with NJ, they required a NY background check as well as their own.
Anyway, to the point, in NJ i have and used a firearms lawyer to help expedite my NJ pistol and FID license, especially since i have NY background, drivers license, etc, and thought it might help me. It did, but it still took almost a YEAR. Anyway, over that year i developed a pretty friendly relationship with the lawyer, he was a younger guy like me, both have pregnant wives at the time, mine is about to POP any day now, lol.
So, when i first went with him i just wanted my NJ FID and pistol, he said carry in NJ for a non LEO is like seeing a "unicorn". Now i agreed, but i said, i may have an extenuating circumstance. I told my lawyer that about a year ago i was held up by gun point in Plainfield NJ, as i am a landlord and own a few multi family homes in that area, and was why i was there. This punk kid jumped in my car, pulled what looked like a 1911 but in .22 caliber, does that exist?, and tried to tell me to give me my money.
Well, just the weekend befor i was upstate at my property firing every version of my 4 AR 15s, for 3 days straight, and a few thousand rounds. It looked like a toy in his hand, and i instantly grabbed his hand wrist, gun, and over powered him. He managed to pull back, crack me in the temple, but i held on, popped my car in drive, while holding him and gun at by, and started pulling away. I yelled, we are going straight to the police station mother fucker, which was literally around the block. He in turn, finally let go, opened the door, jumped out, and his last words were, "Fuck this shit".
Police were called, i gave report, they took pictures of my swollen temple back at the station, i gave description, blah blah blah. Never caught him, btw. Anyway, my lawyer said, well based on that, you MIGHT have a chance to get your carry. We can TRY, after you get your Jersey FID pistol permit.
Ive had my Jersey permit for a bit now, but hadnt taken the time to go back and pursue trying to get my carry. even though my lawyer said we had a chance since i had the police report and the armed incident, he still was kinda on the 50/50 side of it happening.
Well, my lawyer, woke me up today, yes i sleep a little later sometimes, i am pretty much retired, and told me that SCOTUS struck down NY bullshit. I was like, REALLY, and then he said, i am now putting together a bunch of clients that i feel are my best potentials for carry, as a "first wave" to apply and get your carry permits in NJ. He said, are you in, i said 10000%.
He said, come to my office on MONDAY. I said i will bring the police report from my armed robbery attempt incident. He said, oh yeah do that, but we prob dont even need it now, but it wont hurt.
I am so happy right now. This is what i woke up to. My lawyer is now calling me to get my carry permit. I love this country.
