BB gun help

while at cabelas buying my son a BB gun we found a umarex steel force BB gun super cheap. I punched it in and it was $50 cheaper than anywhere else in the bargain cave. He wanted it and overall the reviews were great. I bought it did some research and it seems they are great, but the longevity is not there. Well that's correct. He's used it 3-4 times now and it won't fire. It's past the warranty so I took it apart nothing looked broken or out of place except an Oring. So I put it back and it worked for about 5 shots. So I'm looking for suggestions on a way to fix this piece of shit for a longer time period or a better BB gun. I only paid $80.00, but to use it a few times that sucks. He really likes it because it's CO2 and has the 6 shot burst. I have no issues paying $200 for one that will last. I tried to steer him towards the Benjamin pump riffles, but he wants the assault style. Of course he's 10. Why wouldn't he.

I wish. I tried new ones and no luck. I took it all apart and nothing is broken. The only thing I saw was an oring wrapped around a spring. So I reseated the oring and I got about 5 full powered shots out of it. The I tried the 6 shot burst and I could throw bbs faster. I went back to single shot same thing. New co2 cartridges and I got 5-10 shots. Normally I get 300-400 shots. I thought maybe the co2 was low so I backed them out of the mag and so much co2 came out that it shot me with frozen bits and burned my arm. So I would say the co2 is good the oring just keeps slipping. I read it's super hard to find new orings.

Try looking at Auto parts store for O ring sounds like it may be worn out !

Yeah that's the plan. It just sucks to have to take it apart again. I did some more research and it seems the orings they use are garbage. I work in a plant and between the food plant and the testing equipment we have tons of orings. I'll look around to find one. I emailed the company too. Maybe they will sell me one, but does not sound like it.

Throw it in the trash and get a Crossman 760. Mine has worked just fine for decades. Ask any mouse or barn swallow what their biggest fear in life is - they will tell you it's a Crossman 760. Been in production for 60 years with 12 million units sold. Not sure why someone would consider a different product.

NAPA for O-rings. I've taken my Coleman lanterns, stoves there over the years for fitting O-rings from their open stock.

Pumping is the downside; but I have had pump ones since I was about 8. The only thing as a kid is you go apeshit with over pumping and eventually break it. I just like things to be durable; and CO2 cartridges cost money and need to be replaced often. That seems like a cost I wouldn't want to incur for a BB gun; and of course a Crossman 760 will easily last you 50 years or more. CO2 probably travels faster though. We did BB Gun wars in the woods as a young teenager. Lucky nobody ever lost an eye. If we had CO2, we'd probably all have been on a first name basis with the local emergency room and police station.

I agree 100% and I tried to steer him that direction, but he was having nothing to do with that and I wanted him to use it so I broke down and bought him what he wanted.

My grandson got a 177 caliber, CO2 pellet pistol that looks like a Glock for his birthday a couple of weeks ago. I have to get over to Wally World for a pack of cylinders.

I have a GAMO Big Cat 177 caliber rifle he shoots as well as his Red Ryder BB Gun.

Sorry for you bad purchase, it happens to all of use sometime or another. I'd get rid of it and buy a dependable pellet gun for him and move on.

I have 2 RR's and 2 760's and honestly the RR isn't in the same league.

What size oring is it? Do you have any lube on it? Paintball orings will work in your application. If you can get me the size I may have a few and some grease you can try.

I'll keep that in mind. I took it apart and put it back together. It's working now, but I fear the oring will slip again soon.

My plan is to try to make it through this season with this gun if possible. Then he will be 11 and he shoots real guns so I might just buy him his own 22 or something.

Use some Dow 55 it swells the orings.
