Beginning the pistol permit process in Westchester

I am getting married and moving out of my folks house in a couple of months. They are not very pro gun, so I’ve held off on applying for my pistol permit. With the move coming up and knowing how long the wait for permits in this county can be, I’d like to get started, however I’m unsure if I should do so before the move. Would applying before I’ve set up in my new apartment be an issue for the county?

You can do it but would then need to change and update things mid process. I wouldn’t bother. It’ll be easier and probably just as quick to just wait, or get a PO Box maybe?

I believe a PO Box is a no go. NYS Pistol Permit calls for a *Physical Address*.

In addition to a physical address, be prepared to update all of your documentation with the new address such as drivers license, a copy of your rent receipt, utility bill at your new address, etc. The more documentation that you can show AT YOUR NEW ADDRESS will hasten the process and eliminate any potential delays due to the address not matching your documentation. The 2 months or so that you wait will offset any 'letters of explanation' which further delay the process.

I moved middle of my application in Erie county. I was super worried about it but it depends on the timing of the process. I also moved in the same police district. In fact while closing I stopped in at the pistol permit office and spoke to them. Very nice about it and they took care of it immediately. I asked about paying the change address fee and they said not needed.
If westchester takes a long time and if you’re moving in the same police district I say just apply now. My county told me what would have delayed the process is if the packet was mailed to one local PD then had to be sent to another one. Other than that it’s no big deal. Maybe call and ask them. They may say to wait because they don’t care and they want to avoid the hassle. I can tell you I did get the eye roll when talking with them about it.

Now a married man at a new address with updated drivers license. Made my appointment in February, was told it would be in Feb 2023. THEY called me a few weeks later and moved it to Sept 2022, and then just a couple weeks ago I was moved to the end of this month. I am just about ready to go, but am now wondering - how long will I be waiting to be issued my permit/pick up my pistol?

I had a friend of mine call the Westchester Pistol License office today. They are stating that 'with everything ready', you could get an appointment in a few days. They stressed the point about the calendar changes daily. This is a huge improvement of the several month wait. Of course, this could change at any time. Do I smell change in the air for Westchester residents who want a full carry?

I know, now going back to my delusional fantasies...
