Almost everything offered can shoot sub moa at 100 yards with match ammo these days. If they guaranteed <.5 MOA groups that would be something to talk about. The Savage FCP- SR I recently picked up shot .5 MOA on its first outing with Federal's American Eagle 140 GR OTM load. If I am going to spend that much for a bench rifle I will be building it myself.
OK, which brings up the question; Is an AR-10 "Frankengun" in 6.5C capable of holding the same accuracy, assuming a quality barrel, as a factory gun? In particular I've been mulling over a side charger bolt gun build (no gas tube and a plugged gas block) but otherwise indulging in all possible evilness.
Instead of plugging the gas block have a blank machined to accept the barrel extension and have it headspaced to your bolt. This is what I did with my 17 Remington Bolt action AR. I have a barrel ext for the DPMS AR 308, I plan on building a straight pull AR 308 one day. I was looking at doing it in 6.5 CM.
Are you talking about something like this? Places like Rainier want a small fortune for finished AR barrels.
Yes, I take a blank to my gunsmith with a barrel ext and a bolt and he chambers it and headspaced it for 250 bucks. It is a true bolt action barrel with no port basically turning the AR into a Tube gun.
