I have had a Ruger SR22 for 10 yrs and it’s a great gun, works fine with all ammo, no malfunctions, fun to shoot.Ruger Super Wrangler is also a great choice. Soooooo much fun, inexpensive, but a solid little revolver that can shoot short, long and Magnum (with the WMR cylinder, included.)
Ruger SR22 is a decent choice, also.
I would go with this format since they are easy to shoot and shoot most ammo. They don’t jam up or have failures either. The semi autos that look like self defense pistols do not operate as flawlessly and with him being a new shooter this is spot on and these are tried and true performers. Both the Buckmark and the Ruger Mk "XX" are great for Bullseye (and having shot both I personally prefer the Ruger, but only the Mk IV for ease of teardown). For a more "EDC" style of pistol I like my Ruger SR22
I did not like my SR22, sold it.I had a Ruger SR22. Ran OK, but I didn't like it as the safety action was reversed from most other guns. Sold it.
I had a S&W M&P22. Ran OK, but felt like a toy. Weird feeling weight wise. Sold it.
I bought a Ruger 7 round .22 revolver. Nice gun, but then I discovered the S&W Model 617, 10 round stainless revolver.
Bought the S&W 617, and SpeedBeez reloader setup, and absolutely love it. No plans to ever sell it.
Also bought a Ruger Mk IV 22/45 with 1 button takedown. Love it. No plans to ever sell it either.
Illegal in NY because of weight. And I also see that Ruger offers a 22 Charger pistol in standard, and Takedown models, uses the BX style magazine, has a threaded barrel, and can even come with a tripod! Who knew? Anybody have one, or shot one?

Yeah, I expected that. But it is legal here in the Carolinas!Illegal in NY because of weight.
I love the Ruger MK4. Accurate, easy takedown and just way too much fun.I’ve been looking into adding a new 22 pistol to my collection and everybody keeps recommending the ruger mark 4 or Ruger 22/45
And takes a magazine outside of the pistol grip.Illegal in NY because of weight.
NY What a shithole STATE.And takes a magazine outside of the pistol grip.
You get no argument from me.NY What a shithole STATE.
I never cared much for the ruger mark series due to the take down and especially the reassembly process. With the mark version it eliminates that problem for me, which puts that gun back into consideration for me. I like the fact they are accurate enough, have reasonably priced magazines, reliable to the point they eat just about anything, and made out of real steel and aluminum, and not pot metal like most 22’sI love the Ruger MK4. Accurate, easy takedown and just way too much fun.
So a magazine "inside" the grip is good to go? As in a Hi-Point carbine??And takes a magazine outside of the pistol grip.
