Whenever I hit the thrift stores I head to the bedding section. I've picked up a number of wool blankets over the years of assorted sizes and weights at bargain basement prices. If you use them as a layer not next to your skin, don't matter how rough it is.

What's great about wool blankets is their resistance to fire. They were our emergency smothering and escape blankets in the boiler rooms I use to work in (#6 oil).

Yea its funny, but this is one of those simple things that's so easy to overlook, yet could make all the difference in a rough situation. Nothing worse than being stuck in cold rainy weather, but warming up with a nice blanket could pick your spirits up and help you trudge on.
