Not to start an argument or lessen your comment of "separation of Church and State" but please do take a minute or two to read the fallacy and nothing actually supporting the notion of such.

not saying that it is or couldn't be so, but what would the advantage to delaying the announcement and immediately swearing in the VP?

The difference is that millions of people voted FOR Biden. Now they're effectively having the rug pulled out from under them and the Party elites are going to be choosing who will run for President.

For all their talk about "saving" democracy, it certainly isn't a democratic process to get Biden's replacement.

Yes there is a separation of church and state, in the spirit of not having official state sponsored religious institutions originating laws and ruling on legal issues.

Freedom OF religion, not, freedom FROM religion.
