Biden moves to drop Trump showerhead rule


The Biden administration is moving forward with a plan to drop a Trump-era rule that sought to loosen restrictions on showerhead water flow — something the former president was known to complain about.

The Energy Department announced on Friday that it is taking a step toward reversing the Trump administration’s move in order to tighten showerhead efficiency regulations.


Officials said they will propose a rule reinstating the 2013 definition of "showerhead," which the Trump administration changed. The Trump rule from late last year sought to bypass a requirement allowing no more than 2.5 gallons to flow through a showerhead per minute.

In products containing multiple showerheads, each is considered separately under the Trump-era rule, while the Biden proposal would once again classify them all as the same showerhead to restrict the amount of water flow.

My showerhead doesn't have one but my kitchen sink and bathroom sinks have those water restrictors in them. I screwed the heads off and removed the restrictors. Now my wife can fill a pot with water in a few seconds instead of a minute in the kitchen faucet and we can actually wash our hands in the bathroom sinks and get all the soap off. I am paying for the water so I'll decide for myself how much water flows through my faucets, not the government.

Out here in the desert water conservation makes sense.

Back in NY it's insane to even think about it. The problem in NY was usually getting rid of water, not finding it.

But even out here the real problem is that the left doesn't like the answers that a free market will give, so they manipulate the price of water keeping it artificially low.

If they let the cost track the scarcity properly, then people would conserve their own water. There would be a market for 0.5gpm shower heads.

But that would mean the poor guy got a crappier shower than the rich guy and they don’t like that.

I replaced the old 1/2 steel water pipes from the street pipe due to low water volume with 3/4 inch "L" copper pipes and ball valves. Still getting 80 # pressure but still get 1.5 gallons a minute. WTF?!
Village of Endicott water sucks, especially if a valve is running and you turn on another faucet you can hear the air sucking in. (No valve pressure reducer in house)

When people fail to comply with this, the municipalities will just further restrict flow at your meter, or limit the flow rate of well pumps. Then you will have to prove you shit twice before you are allowed to flush.

The amount of water coming out of my showerhead wasn't even on my radar, but now I will intentionally seek to defy yet another bs law. Good job assholes.
