Actually it’s somewhat embarrassing that the US doesn’t have a bullet train or TGV equivalent. I’ll bet if Trump has proposed the idea it would’ve been a brilliant idea. I’m totally not defending Biden but this is long long overdue.

Yes and no. I get what you’re saying but our course try and the size of it is much more complex than places that have them. This doesn’t really interest me. The money spent to make it a viable source of travel would be astronomical even to a few key destinations.

Actually, when the 2nd avenue subway line was investigated, those brain trusts used a different $... Basically making note that if building a new commuter rail line ANYWHERE in the world, the cost is approx. $500 Million per Mile! So that would stretch the new rail line out to around 16 miles! Now of course you'd have to understand that this is just for the RAIL LINE... It will only go up from there. Problem with the 2nd Ave Subway was trying to discover WHY it cost over 2x that number... Spending around $1 Billion per mile! Welcome to NY! So take Cali... Which is probably 2x worse than NY in Red Tape BS with getting anything done... Yeah! The 8.3 Billion is basically na advertising fee so the current administration can say they've invested in High Speed Rail when that $ is basically just going to be spent padding pockets!!!

U.S. Railways are already shit. Even though millions of tons of freight go by rail, it's slow and because tracks absolutely have to go through populous areas where many very stupid people live, it's inefficient and subject to constant slowing down and speeding up. There are also plenty of areas where the track conditions are poor which also forces slower speeds. So. No high speed rail even able to be put in on those routes. That means total new builds - and that is going to take incredible amounts of time, labor, effort, and far more money that a few billion. Legal battles over property rights, eminent domain, and having to make exceptions to restricted land will take decades. And then, unless the so called "high speed" trains are elevated, they are going to run into similar problems in population centers as normal rail. Then you have to figure how many politico's will demand the train stops in their cities and states, and suddenly the schedules will go out further. No intelligent business person is going to think "hmmmm... high speed rail to my destination in 8-10 hours, or a plane in 3 hours? I'll take the train!" What a fucking waste.

All of that is very true, which is why we missed the boat on this idea 40 or 50 years ago.

This ain't a new project, it is an old money laundering boondoggle. Governor Jerry Brown initially proposed this project, in 1996, Governor Pete Wilson established this California High-Speed Rail Authority that Biden and ButtEdge are funding. They've been pushing dirt around making tracks to nowhere since 2015 and it blew through so much money with so little progress even Newsome was distancing himself from it in spite of constant lobbying of Congress for more money from the 49 other states.

2016 Newsome wanted 929 million for the build and Trump pulled it. Now 3.9 billion? :ROFL:NO. If Californians want it they can pay for it. Taxes are just a slush fund for bribes and corruption. NY 500 million per mile, theft. The NYC bridges have been under constant renovation or repair for over 50 years now. This I have lived. lol

The agency is claiming it's 96 billion. The 3.9 billion is just Biden's gift this week. Hell they already spent 10 billion on the initial phase and that has several years of work to go on their already blown wet dream schedule.
