I'm pretty sure this is nothing new. If you've ever bought a gun from an FFL, no matter when or where, ever posted a picture of a gun, or written anything online about a gun, you can assume that some alphabet agency of .gov has a record of it somewhere.

Government database of gunowners has been talked about for decades. In reality it's a big nothing burger. So is UN (blue helmets) gun confiscation plans. The most recent ATF policy change was bump stock ban pushed for by Trump administration.
