Nancy Pelosi was very up front about the proposed "bump stock" ban as being a slippery slope. With a little extrapolation in the anti-gunner's thought process, as listed by Phazer in #32, she is not hiding behind the false, IMO, statement "we don't want to take your guns". She sounds either confident or arrogant.

This bill is intentionally not narrowly focused and can effectively outlaw any semi-auto trigger improvement or rework retroactively. This is not a mistake, since bill was drafted by professional anti-gun bill writers for the Senator.

If rushed through it will intentionally not be thought out and may evolve into a SAFE act like law enforcement mess where people could be arrested and the firearm seized. Whatever anyone thinks of the NRA, there is political wisdom in a position of revisiting previous BHO era ATF approvals of bump stocks and resisting any new legislation or bans.

I haven't read through every Post in this thread, but I'd be willing to bet that no gun control laws have ever stopped a criminal from carrying out a crime he was intent to commit. Their reasoning is flawed. If someone wants to commit a crime they are going to regardless of what laws are on the books already planning to murder someone which is the number one crime in the world.
As far as the NRA goes, I hope everyone realizes that they are nothing but a bunch of sellouts. I agree that this bump stock thing is a stupid gimmick, but we shouldn't be giving an inch because they will take a mile.

If the NRA wants BATF to revisit their decision on this, in stead of the congress writing out some onerous broadly written bill and making it law, then yes there is a certain amount of wisdom in their approach. Look what is happening already with the gun grabbers in both houses, and who will stop them, the republicans(?)! HAH!!!!
I don't like either one but a narrowly defined regulation is better than a sweeping law and will buy time and space from the hysteric's. Kill me slowly, where there is life there is hope.

Useless legislation over a niche device, that 99.9% of the public never heard of until 3 days ago, that decreases rifles' accuracy while effectively playing on emotion and which will allow future interpretations to further infringe on 2nd amendment rights.

This is the slippery slope i was referring to in another thread - they will get the NRA and republicans to agree that rapid bump fire with a modified stock is bad and then they will use the comparison that any trigger modifications which could also increase the possibility of bump firing (even if you never intended to use it that way) must be bad too. All trigger mods will become banned. Anti gun legislatures will then argue that if the NRA and Republicans agree that bump firing 400 rounds per minute is bad then why is it it "OK" to allow semi-automatic firing of 200 rounds per minute. Who needs 200 rounds a minute to shoot a deer. All semi auto should be restricted... So it will be a wide brush they use to make these bump stocks illegal and they will made many other features or enhancements illegal at the same time as they chip away further and further. Don't give them an inch...

Watch....if the Dems open the pathway for the bump-stock manufacturers to be sued, vendors and manufacturers will be loathe to sell any trigger or stock components for fear that they'll be subject to civil actions.

Semi Automatic is semi automatic. It's as fast as YOU can pull the trigger. With a bump fire stock you aren't really pulling the trigger. The recoil is. Your finger stays in one place. With a crank, you aren't pulling the trigger. The crank is. You are just turning the crank.

Here's my concern:
- They'll get the bump stock banned.
- They'll add vague language that will criminalize any mechanical features that allow a semiautomatic firearm to fire faster.
- They'll initially get a ban on binary trigger systems since they effectively double the rate of fire.
- They'll still notice that practiced shooters can achieve decent (read: scary) rates of fire with standard trigger groups.
- They'll then tell us that lighter pull weight triggers allow faster firing while making target acquisition more efficient.
- They'll then tell law enforcement that light triggers are implied as banned items.
- They'll set some arbitrary high weight trigger as a minimum trigger weight (ex/ 12-pound "New York trigger" on Glock pistols for NYPD).
- Vendors will stop selling trigger groups for fear of criminal penalties if their products don't meet unwritten specifications in the law.
- And...eventually....a complete ban on semiautomatic magazine-fed firearms.
