I think it was a mistake to move to direct election of Senators as well. Senators are there to represent states, not voters. Representatives are their for “the people.”

When I was younger, I couldn't understand why senators were not always directly elected. But, later on, I understood that in the federal government, the House of Representatives was intended to represent "the people" and the Senate was intended to represent the states (since senators were elected by state legislatures).
In effect, the 17th amendment (supported by Progressives) removed states' representation in the federal government. That left us with situations where state legislatures and governors are against policies but the same state's senators support a policy (or vise versa). Before the 17th amendment, such senators would have been recalled by their respective states.

Anyone hear of the National Popular Vote Interstate Compact? Basically, it's an agreement between states that they will award their electoral votes to whomever wins the nationwide popular vote. It only comes into effect once the compact has enough electoral votes to decide the election (currently they're at 189/270). New York is already a member, BTW.
Now, I'm totally against this for many reasons, but can you imagine if they got enough votes for this to take place, and a Republican won the popular vote? My guess is we'd see some "emergency" legislation pass overnight to break out of the compact...

This is so sad. It just proves beyond question that many, many citizens have no idea about the proper functioning of our government. Listening to Mayor Buttgig give his speech over the weekend just made my stomach churn. It was so disingenuous and pandering. Yet, he got all sorts of applause for the comments. Is it really that easy? God I hope not.

The political divide seems to be greater today than any other recent time in history (that Im aware of). And its pretty crazy how far apart things have become. I attribute this more towards the left going waaaaayyyyyyy left and acting like spoiled brats that will stop at nothing to get their way. I hope the moderate Americans wake up and vote out the lunatic lefties.
