Bio/virus attacks or pandemics

I'm just curious how much you guys think of or worry over a biological pandemic or deliberate attack?

Its something I guess I'm becoming more concerned about.

What have you guys who have been interested in this topic learned so far that is valuable to share?

Where is a good place to start researching what to be concerned about?


It's something I've always been thinking of in the back of my mind since 9/11.

But what got me thinking about it recently is I occasionally browse a few alternative websites that may dabble in what many would consider conspiracy territory .(steve quayle, Doug hagmann, Alex jones, Dave Hodges , hal turner) etc..

I've seen this same story repeated multiple times over the previous few years and it continues to grow in complexity. The latest twist is now a very high ranking anynomous official has confirmed or reported that it's a real threat. Regarding the above story, I can buy into it. After learning about and seeing the deep state exposed recently and everything else... Nothing would shock me. The globalists are pure evil.


I know that particular story may be dismissed by some but I think the threat of some sort of bio attack or virus is very real.

What do you guys think?

I'm kidding. I hope we get a good conversation going here. This is a concern of mine though I envision it a bit differently. I work in Manhattan 5 days a week and my wife is at home. My office bag has some dual use biohazard items (couple of N95 masks, safety glasses and gloves, wipes, etc). My concern generally is getting the fuck out of dodge before FUAC and DiFailio lock down the city a la Escape from New York, and I get shot in the chest by Johnny National Guard whilst trying to get across the Harlem River.

I'm more concerned about unintentional than intentional, and the fallout therefrom. If you do buy into conspiracy theories, god bless and I won't judge. My concern is lack of conspiracies, and the existence of human nature/sclerotic big government.

Think back to that dickhead nurse who came back from Africa during the last big Ebola outbreak. What point was she proving, that she's a selfish dumbass?

To your point though, I'd like to know what I'm missing gear-wise that makes sense to include.

I think negligence, incompetence, human error, nature, etc Are huge and very real risks. Historically civilization has been continually hit by plagues or pandemics . We've been lucky for awhile I feel we are over due.

So if there's a new virus or something being reported at what point do you guys make the decision that you are going to bunker down and shelter in place.

Say there is a mysterious new virus getting reported on and it appears to be spreading.

How do decide if your willing to lose your job and you aren't sure if your dealing with something like SARS or a something like a North American Ebola outbreak?

Do you consider things like incubation period? Where the virus was last reported?

Bio and pandemics are the ones that creep me out the most. Odds are once it is known about it has been transmitted to a fairly large amount of folks and who really knows where it is at that point.

Unlike a lot of sudden event scenarios that can be sized up so important decisions can be made, a pandemic has a lot of unknowns and would be an evolving situation. Think about it, your family is scattered all day and when you come together to assess the issue and make plans you don’t even know if one or more of you are infected already?

I remember my 80 year old dad telling me that when he was a kid they were warned of an imminent bio attack by the Russians.
Then again when he was a teen, then a young adult, then a middle aged man.......
I remember in the 1980s we were warned that a bio attack was inevitable.
Then right after 911.
And several times between all those times.

However, nature can be a bitch.
Most people would be surprised how many horrible "bugs" are active and known about at any one time.
Even bugs that have been "cured" are evolving all the time.
This is ehat nature does.
Deadly viruses and bacteria constantly fight to survive.
When we come up with a solution, they come up with a solution to our solution.
There is no stopping it.
Take influenza for instance.
Every year the flu mutates to overcome the previous years vaccine.
Todays flu would have killed millions 50 years ago.
Tommorrows flu will look like a cute little bug in another 50 years.

Then theres the new viruses and bacteria that are discovered every year.
There are some scary things living in Africa, SE Asia and India that scare the crap out of scientists, right now today.
Theres always a cure for the cure.

We were a bit concerned when we found info that the jihadis were trying to weaponize camel pox, that is similar to small pox, because many people from the Middle East have a natural immunity to it. The jihadis were unsuccessful.
The first problem the jihadis faced was that you must have a lab to brew the bugs in that protects your own people from infection. Second, since the jihadis mostly work in the third world where health care is scarce, they could potentially kill more of their friends than their enemies.
One large factor in weaponizing any disease is that no country in the world has a medical intelligence/research/ treatment system like the USA. Example, with all the hype,and fear of EBOLA, we had it come to our shores, and nothing happened.
All major cities in US now have mandatory notification to CDC within 24 hours for patients presenting with fever and rash, the calling card of the worst diseases.
Since 9/11 we have placed filter traps that capture a sampling of all the biological and viral things that are airborne in our country. they get checked weekly so we have an idea of what is out there that hasn't presented to a health care facility.

Can Mother Nature do us all in with a variant of a known disease, Without a doubt.
It was determined after the Pandemic of 1918 that Influenza started in the same area of China every year where the humans, ducks and pigs all lived close to each other, in some cases sharing the same yurt. For a few decades we were able to identify the next strain and have time to grow a large, but finite supply of specific vaccine before the virus hit the Western world.
No longer, with modern travel and the population explosion since 1918 we now have multiple strains of Influenza traveling around the world continuously mutating.

My biochemistry professor at Fordham, whose favorite subject was the Pandemic always said, "If you want a healthy immune system, ride the subway."
Overuse of antibiotics,antiiceptic cleaners, hand cleaners all lead to diseases that develop resistance to our basic tools.

Wash your hands. Always. Soap and water will not kill every bug, but some of those bugs are good ones that keep the bad bugs in check. When there is a crazy disease running around, or your immune system is weak, wear one of those N95 masks. The new "Cool Air" ones are quite comfortable.

Don't forget your pepper spray in that go-bag Having a go-bag while working in a city is wise, particularly the masks. One bad exposure event and ten years later you have lung cancer.

I think a widespread bio event that takes out millions is difficult to see as viable in western societies. A big outbreak in undeveloped parts of the world, whether intentional or some mutation, maybe, but in the West with the maturity of groups like the CDC and outbreak control, I can't think of a single virus that has been unleashed in the past by nature that would not be curtailed quickly these days. People could be quarantined fast, news spreads fast, everybody would have masks, etc. Plenty could get through and plenty could die, but something that takes out 10% of the population in the West I can't envision.

The best viruses to kill a lot of people would be one with a very long incubation period that spreads easily. Are there any air borne illnesses that also lie dormant for very long periods of time, so that they can spread before being sufficiently detected? I don't think there are...
