Citizenship should be through direct birthright (ie. Your mother/father were US citizens at the time of your birth) or naturalization through meeting requirements. This "your parents were here illegally when you were born so you are a citizen" stuff needs to end. But, the fact remains, being born here is all that is required to claim citizenship.
There are other ways to claim it, but that one is sufficient.
I really don't get where the whole "consent" thing comes from, this is something someone is actively claiming. Being born here *allows* you to claim US citizenship, it doesn't force it on you that you need to consent to it.
It's like the Rollercoaster that you need to be 48" or taller to ride. You don't consent to the 48" requirement. You either meet it or you don't. It's the ride operator that consents to you riding, and he will not consent if you are too short.
We have the naturalization process for people born elsewhere who *want* to be US citizens to prove that they have what it takes to be "one of us". But, if you're born here you get an automatic pass.
Now, you can argue against that, and I think a system were all citizenship must be earned is a great idea, but that's simply not what we have.
