Black Friday gun checks down 10 percent after 2017 broke records
The number of background checks run by the FBI for firearm purchases this Black Friday saw a 10 percent drop after last year's shopping day set a new single-day record.

The bureau told USA TODAY it ran 182,093 background checks for firearms, the lowest number since 2014. Last year, the FBI fielded 203,086 requests on Black Friday, up from the previous single-day highs of 185,713 in 2016 and 185,345 in 2015.


The checks, run through the FBI's National Instant Criminal Background Check System, are not a measure of actual gun sales. The number of firearms sold Friday is likely higher because multiple firearms can be included in one transaction by a single buyer.

Yea, those numbers don't mean shit.

Down here if you have your CCDW, there is no NICS check done for any purchase. There are quite a few other states that work the same way. You just complete the 4473, they put your permit number on it, pay your $$ and say good-bye. If you don't have your CCDW, then a NICS check is required. Permits are not required down here to own a handgun, but if you want to CC, then a CCDW permit is required. You can own a handgun down here as long as you pass the NICS check. :flag:

how can MSN get this data this fast and it takes months or years to fix a bad NICS check fixed for a buyer ?? i'm gunna say fake news

same if you have a FFL03 too correct even in NY ( not sure on Pistol ) but C&R Rifles .. no NICS check ..

The 4473 is the only part about buying a gun that's annoying IMO. A pistol in NYS is a different story, but background checks require no effort and take minutes most of the time.

less then 10 seconds on the corner of Ave-D in Rochester and tons more on corners all over NY for a pistol ;) just sayin

lets see the black Fridays sales on the corner numbers ... hummm

Ah....good old avenue D in Rochester. The hickey freeman factory store used to be there. Great suits, good prices but you put your life at risk traveling there. I think they moved the store to another location so their customers wouldn't get shot.
