But the powder is the easy part, what do you do for primers ?

A flint lock would be a much bigger step back than just BP.

For primers I think he had a tool for punching out little cups from a sheet of aluminum and inserting the little bubbles from a roll of caps.
The simplest thing would probably be a matchlock type ignition.

If you have the priming compound I bet you could just re-use the brass for primers many times. Even when they run out I don't think making them would be the hard part.

It's the compound that would be hard to come by. Or the ingredients to make it.

If everyone else is relegated to match or flint locks, the guy with the cap and ball revolver would be king...

Being that the links are down, in assuming this is about some type of SHTF and not just a hobby so my post is in regards to SHTF.

Why not just stockpile a decent amount of ammo to begin with and you don’t have to worry about making your own for a subpar weapon?

I mean, how many thousands of rounds will you be expending when ammo isn’t to be had anymore?

You aren’t going to fire thousands of rounds hunting and if you think you will run out of thousands of rounds for self defense, you watch too much tv.

Own a musket for home defense, since that's what the founding fathers intended. Four ruffians break into my house. "What the devil?" As I grab my powdered wig and Kentucky rifle. Blow a golf ball sized hole through the first man, he's dead on the spot. Draw my pistol on the second man, miss him entirely because it's smoothbore and nails the neighbors dog. I have to resort to the cannon mounted at the top of the stairs loaded with grape shot, "Tally ho lads" the grape shot shreds two men in the blast, the sound and extra shrapnel set off car alarms. Fix bayonet and charge the last terrified rapscallion. He Bleeds out waiting on the police to arrive since triangular bayonet wounds are impossible to stitch up. Just as the founding fathers intended.
