blank firing guns - legal?

So can you own blank firing guns here in New Dorkistan? (specifically Erie and Niagara county?) Was looking online and came across them. Fires 8mm or 9mm blanks. Thought it might make a useful training tool to get a 1911 that is just like my carry piece. Can use it to train without a danger of it actually discharging a projectile.

Ive never really thought of it but my dad and me have officiated diving and swimming competitions for years.
We use them and carry them in out duffles.

So is it something I have to do thru an FFL and put on my pistol permit, or is it something that I can just order thru the mail?

We bought ours about 20 years ago at a sporting good store similar to Dicks, Cabellas......
The store we bought them at is now closed.

Have you thought about an airsoft gun for training? Not sure what exactly you plan on doing with it.

As far as a blank gun. Not sure if your county would want it on a PP or not. I don't see why It would be though. Is the muzzle plugged? Does it have an orange muzzle?

Yes the barrel would be plugged and it would have an orange tip. The blank guns fire either specially made 8mm rounds or 9mm PAK rounds. I want it for training as it would have the same size, weight and feel of my 1911, but would also incorporate recoil as well as noise. I know you can get airsoft guns that simulate recoil, but I am still missing the noise.

Ah okay that makes sense. Are you trying to buy online? I would just order it and roll with it.

They have some nice blow back CO2 powered guns. Look into them. Not sure how the weight would compare, but I trained with a glock and it was the same weight and trigger pull as the glock. They were about $130.00. I will look to find the same one as my carry gun, but have not found one yet.
