Blue mountain sportsman center how is it?

Hello I’d like to know if anyone has been to blue mountain Sportman Center in cortlandt, NY. and how is it over there? I was looking at it on Google maps and website doesn’t give a lot of information, just like to know how’s parking there & where is the office to pay for pistol booth, also is there staff working around the range area? It's a nice range for some calm, outdoor shooting. If you're really from Elmsford, you won't find an outdoor range closer. Things kinda depend on the range you go to, the time of the year, and what you want to do.

You have the 100, 200, and 300 yard range. Bench shooting, no rapid fire, no more than, I think, 5 rds in the mag, and must have a chamber flag when the rifle is put down. Think slow, precision, target shooting. They provide sandbags and blocks you can use as well as spotting scopes. For much of the year, it's no problem to get range time there. Right before hunting season, getting on a 100 yard target will involve some waiting. At the 100 yard distance, you also have targets of opportunity to shoot at like steel plates and junk. You can shoot prone at the 200 yard line, and the ROs seem to tend to babysit the 200 yard shooters much less. They are also very willing to help you out (depending on the RO). I've never asked to use the 300 yard line since I only found out it existed earlier this year and haven't gone up there much since.

I forget the target distances for the small bore/pistol ranges, but the farthest ones are 50 yards away, I know you have 15 yard targets, and I think 25 and 5 yard targets. There are two. One is more for precision small bore shooting. The other is a more casual range. Again, no rapid fire – more target than tactical. They allow 12 ga slugs and rifles up to 7.62x39 with mag limits. The ROs there are older and somewhat anti-tacticool stuff, but they're still helpful if you need help.

The skeet and trap ranges are pretty nice. Yell pull, blast the bird(s). They have lots of first time shooters there, and it can get busy, but they do their best to keep the games moving while making sure everyone has fun. The fewer people are there, the more they coach beginners. If it's packed, they'll worry less about beginners breaking any birds and instead just make sure they're safe and keep it moving.

I go to the large bore rifle range at either 100 or 200 yards depending on which rifles I bring that day. I usually go mid day on a Friday after work. Its usually quiet during that time. Like stated above, only 5 rounds for either bolt or semi auto and slow shooting. I use it as a time to learn to relax and take accurate shots. The R/O’s that are there on Friday are really cool guys. If they show interest in your rifle, let them have a few shots. It will go a long way as far as making your shooting session a really good time.

when you enter the facility you must log in and pay at the cabin on your right, park your car at the left side parking lot and walk in to the Cabin, then go back to your car drive pass the archery range on your left follow the narrow road bear left and park across the pistol range.

It has ample parking space across the range, as stated above it's usually quiet if you go midday Thursdays and Fridays. Yes, Walton and other RO's are there working around the ranges. you will also have to log in when you enter the range and enjoy!

If you have a Westchester park pass the fees are also lower. They will also ask for your Driver's License number when you log in at the shack. We've had friends shoot with us from other states and it wasn't an issue. Sometimes they have sold park passes there but you'd have to check. They also sell them at the County Center. They are good for several years. Also, bring your own spotting scope. The range offers have a few but you can't borrow them for an hour. They will help you get on paper if you ask, usually by having you shoot at nearby steel so they know where you are hitting. Always clean up your own brass and listen to commands. They try to have a cease fire and change targets once an hour so if you want to keep your target you can go and get it or ask someone to get it for you. Once they call cease fire you must put down your rifle, eject rounds and put in a Open Chamber Indicator and step away behind the wooden barrier. Ensure you eject all cartridges before you leave. If you want to pack up, do it before they cease fire or you could wait ten minutes until the range goes hot again.
I volunteered there years ago but after a new superintendent wanted more time than I could give, I stopped.
I've also shot at the skeet and pistol ranges. Local instructors also rent bays at the pistol ranges and teach pistol, shotgun and carbine classes.
