How is Blue Mountain Shooting Range for pistols? I've heard horror stories of 1 round in the magazine for rifles and have never gone because of that.

Are there any restrictions for pistols?

I normally go to PA or Wooster in Danbury when I want outdoors but don't feel like taking the trek and figured I try this range out.

Yea, I was a Wooster man every Sunday til Feb when they stop, before I became a Putnam Fish and Game member. Wooster gets you your fix when needed but that every half hour hour shit and waiting on other fools to take their sweet old time to walk 50 yards to staple a piece of paper drove me nuts. Lol.

No 5 at a time in the rifle but the RO are a pain in the ass. Chamber flags are mandatory there now. I dislike going to the rifle range but don't mind pistol.

I go there once a week and if he knows you can handle your firearm he gives you room.
I have a habit of watching the line and I watch how he pays attention to the newbies.
As toecutter already said, 5 in a magazine but whose watching and Walt does love to talk.
Thursday and Friday 10-3, Saturday 10-4 and Sunday 11-4.
$8 an hour pistol with Westchester park pass.
$11 without Westchester park pass.
There are 20 lanes and if no one is there you can stay as long as you want.
Targets are set at 7, 14 and 25 yards.
Small bore range and trap is OK.
Large bore is a little more stricter being what it is.
But again as toecutter says 5 in a magazine.
It used to be one round only but that has since changed.

in collecting my money than the safety of the line.
The people were too close together and I was constantly blasted with brass.
I felt it was dangerous so I never went back.

You should try the range in Pike county PA I go to sometimes. There is no range safety officer.

I live in lower Westchester County.
I sometimes shoot indoors at Coyne Park in Yonkers or Master
Class in Monroe when it's too cold or when Blue Mountain is closed.
I really don't like to shoot at indoor ranges.
I feel dirty being inside with all the smoke and dust.
I know it's probably psychological but it still bothers me.

i spend most of my time at the small bore now, the 2 older RSOs at the small bore are nice, friendly and helpful. I dont know their names but the asian gentlemen likes to talk alot which i dont mind. friendly guys.

I go to Blue Mountain big bore rifle every few weeks on Friday's. Its pretty dead there on Friday's. The rule right now is 5 in the mag but the RSO's are pushing for the 10 round limit that is law here in NY. Bob is cool and so are the older skinny RO and the retired cop RO. I forgot their names. They always put out golf balls on the 200 yard berm for me while my back is turned and challenge me to find and shoot them with the AR. Get to know the RO's and be friendly with them and it will go a LOOOONG way as far as them turning a blind eye on you.

You have to remember, this is a county government owned public range surrounded by houses in an anti gun county. We are lucky to at least have a place to shoot in Westchester County that doesn't cost a small fortune. I'll take it for now for all its worth.

But on a serious note, I have always hated people/ranges that go even beyond SAFE (an ABSURD limitation in the first place) because they know better.

He doesn't forget anything. what he does know though, is that such ranges should not be patronized.

i don't suppose you are taking new members up there at putnam? That would be an ideal spot for me and i would never have to go to Blue Mountain again. Like others said, its good if you get to know the RSOs, but the hours are just ridiculous.
