From the buoyage system to celestial navigation.
They frequently give tests and you can increase your level of knowledge.
The top level is N (Navigator).
If your into reading this book is a must but it also can be used as a reference.

I think there is a group in my town I've spoken to them before at their table during fairs etc. Hard for me because all of their meetings/boating are along the Hudson and I've always done all my boating in Lake George. Maybe give them another look now that I have a trailer... either way my son needs the boater safety course. He's been "driving" under my direction since an infant and is quite proficient but I'd feel better about it if he had the certificate.

Understood. I have looked into it before. Have had a boat for over 20 years and we spend A LOT of time on the water. Always things to learn I've been doing it with a lot of stuff (different hobbies, etc) my entire life...

I always enjoyed boating.
I especially love navigation.
When I ran boats buoys were black, not green.
Loran C was it, not Sat Nav or GPS.
