So, I am shooting today and I hear that extra loud bang you never want to hear !
I was shooting my Sig P239 in 40sw and it blew up in my hands.
Sorry no blood or gore, just some pain and tenderness.
The case is still chsmbered without its bottom and blew off the extractor.
The round still went where it was supposed to go!

Glad you are okay @Phauxtoe! That has to be one of my biggest fears with handguns. I have a 40s&w as well, a Glock. I know earlier models had some kabooms but I forget if that was with hand loads or factory ammo.

I'd suggest from now on if you store ammo like that, always tear off the lot number from the box, put it in the bag with the ammo and only store ammo from the same lot in a given bag, don't mix.

I saw the same thing happen to a guy shooting a Glock. It was with cheap Tula Ammo. Glock wound up replacing the whole gun.

That's not a chamber support issue. Did it blow the mag out the bottom?

As it was factory, you need to let Winchester know and you'll get a free gun most likely.

Winchester will probably want a lot number though. I hope @Phauxtoe can get a new gun or compensation of some sort for this. These things are no joke.

They might, they might not. When the pieces get sent back, they can usually tell if it's factory, and who always keeps their empty boxes?

Not if it didn't blow the mag out, like a support issue generally does.

Glad you are oksy. One way or another, you will get a replacement gun. Sig is Lifetime Warranty. Winchester will take care of you as well.

Although its only by word of mouth and people talking in other forums. Winchester white box target ammo in the 180 grain 40 S&W is known to every now and then have a potent mix or hot load and cause malfunctions like this. Idk about the 165 grain mix batches tho. Let Winchester know. Hopefully you have the batch/lot number

As for the Sig , it sucks. But that barrel looked well shot thru over time. Not guns fault.

So i talked to SIG, and they want the gun to inspect it.
they said most likely it should be okay. they said if its only replacing the extractor there won't be a charge. if the barrel is damaged then I may or may not have to buy a new one.
they told me 3-5 weeks once it arrives (those damn 320 and 365s must be jamming up the works!)
I will update how they handle everything.

(hey does anyone know, could it be converted to a 9mm? i would love to make it cheaper to shoot!)

That is unfortunate about the SIG though. But also pretty lucky as well. P239 is a little tank of a gun, I'd bet that you might not have escaped with so little harm had it happened in a different gun. I carried a P239 myself when I was in Texas. It was a 9mm. It was a carry gun that was as enjoyable to shoot as a full sized gun.
I certainly hope it can be put back in action!
