Bought a Barnett Q6 crossbow with 20 inch 100 grain field points. Can anyone tell me the type of broadhead I should use? i know it has to be 100 grain but is mechanical or fixed the way to go?
Thanks. Going to spend some time getting comfortable with crossbow and field points. The thing with crossbows is if a fixed broadhead doesn't fly right, you can not easily tune to fix it. Mechanical will usually fly almost the same as a field point. I shot NAP shockwaves this year with very good results. Buy whatever you are comfortable with and make sure you sight in with them and check how they fly.
They make crossbow blades. I have them. Unfortunately, I’ve never had a chance to use them.I've been using Rage 2 blade mechanicals for years and wouldn't hesitate to recommend them for a bow. I've shot 6 or 8 deer with them and have never had an issue with them. Not sure if they work well in crossbows, but I would assume they would.

Thanks. Are these legal in NY?Rage Xtreme 100 gr.
2 blades and 2.3" cutting diameter.
Tough and reliable.
Exact same point of impact as field points.
Use the red high energy shock collars (they are for crossbows).
I use this combo in a Scorpyd with 175lb limbs.
These were the specific broadheads recommended by Scorpyd.

Thanks I am learning a lot.crossbownation is your new friend. Try a few different broadheads that fly well. Yes not a cheap solution but required to be accurate and ethical.
The bolts that came with your bow are useless. Get some good ones from southshorearchery.com
You can group out to 50yds with decent bolts.
I use NAP spitfire
Just something to keep in mind while it shoulders like a rifle it is not. The sound of it reaches the animal before the bolt will. So deer can and will move. The longest shot i took was 44yds and that was poke for me.
Yes, I have shot video clearly showing that at 40 yards a whitetails reaction is definitely after impact. I did this experiment by shooting at target next to deer (both in the same shot) and then watching video at super slo mo. Granted this is from a 450fps crossbow.Very important point! Another reason to keep your shots close!
In my experience hunting with my XB, deer shot at 20 yards or less did not react fast enough to duck the bolt as they often can (and will) with a compound.

The new Scorpyd with 175lb limbs. It is impressive to shoot. A real tack driver.WOW.....450 FPS is insane!! What make/model XB do you shoot? I thought mine was fast at 360!!
That’s awesome!

Here, Jim states every 100-150 shots.
Perhaps the recommendation has changed since the video was posted?
Thanks! On the archerytalk forum there were many threads about serving wear and the eventually what everyone agreed was to use black graphite on the string serving to reduce the wear. every few shots.
Just one of many threads..http://www.archerytalk.com/vb/showthread.php?t=3099914&p=1080270146#post1080270146
