Bought a Ruger 9mm PC Carbine w/ MagPul Backpacker hardware. Debating replacing my 10/22 takedown.

Back when I was living in the New Yorkistan firearm owner's gulag, I owned a neutered Ruger 10/22 takedown rifle, - stainless model, basic hardware, and no threaded barrel, in order to comply with the (Un)Safe Act horseshit. And sorry to say it, but that tiny 10 round rotary magazine is ridiculous. I debated replacing the barrel with a threaded one, and looked at replacing the standard furniture with the MagPul Backpacker hardware. And then I thought, why spend $300-$350 to do that, and all the labor to make the change? Especially when I could buy a brand new MagPul version for $500+/- if I wanted one.

I already own a couple of .22 handguns that I can plink with and use with my supressor. So, is it worth bothering with getting another 10/22 Takedown rifle?

Now down here in Free America, I finally bit the bullet and bought a Ruger 9mm PC Carbine Takedown w/ MagPul Backpacker furniture. Very, very nicely designed and made. Threaded barrel is standard. Uses either Ruger or Glock standard Model 17/19 mags (I am planning to use Glock mags, - available up to 33 rounders to save reloading at the range). The MagPul furniture is very well designed. And it fits perfectly into my Ruger backpack that I still have that came with the 10/22 Takedown.

So, I sold my neutered 10/22 Takedown, less backpack.

Just curious if any of you guys have any other thoughts on this.

Further edit: After I swapped out the magwell to now use Glock mags, I discovered that the storage chamber in the stock will perfectly hold Glock mags without them rattling around (the Ruger mags do, as they are slightly smaller).

I have one in FDE and absolutely love mine. Minus the threaded barrel of course because I’m behind enemy lines

I love my 10/22s! Threaded barrel is pointless to me since I can't have a suppressor.

PC carbine looks neat, but I already have an AR in 9mm.

Don't have any other long guns in 9 mm, and I too also loved my 10/22 Takedown (except for the 10 round rotary mags), so buying the Ruger 9 mm Takedown PC Carbine with the MagPul stock seemed like a good choice for me. But I am thinking I will pass on getting another 10/22 Takedown rifle.

I really, really like my Ruger PC9. I mean, I used to like it, before the Great Storm of Bottomless Pondpuddle upset my tiki boat and sent that, and possibly numerous other things I loved, straight to Davy Jones’ muddy gun locker. (My tiki torches survived. They were solar. Green power!) But what a great design that Ruger is for a straight blowback action.

I put my PC 40 in a Magpul stock. The PC9s I have are in the Ruger stocks. PC9 with 147 subsonic rounds suppressed are a hoot.

none of my 10/22s are takedown versions. Can’t really see the point when I have 22 LR ARs and AR pistols in 5.56 and 300BO. Which can be run suppressed.

Keep your 10/22. There might be a time where you can't get 9mm or vice versa. Both rounds are very versatile, both would be great survival guns and I doubt your 10/22 is taking up much space.

The neutered 10/22 Takedown has been sold to a local FFL, likely to be resold to a dad somewhere for his kid to plink and learn with. If I get another one (and I still might), it will have the MagPul Backpacker furniture and a threaded barrel.

As far as being able to shoot .22 rounds, I am in good shape with an S&W Model 617 revolver; a Ruger Mark IV 22/45 Lite (threaded barrel); and a Walther PPK/S (also threaded barrel), both of which I can use with my suppressor. And I'm all stocked up with .22 ammo and plenty of magazines.

As for 9mm, I am also well stocked with both 9mm handguns (and now a long gun in 9mm), and 9mm target and defensive ammo.

Next up will be to look at a 9mm suppressor. Possibly a BANISH model that handles multiple calibers, to save my hearing at the range.

How much does the longer barrel improve velocity ans bullet effectiveness? I'm imagining a carbine length barrel with some +p self defense ammo might be fairly effective.

Any good videos with ballistic gel comparison to pistol length barrels vs carbine?
