Bragg makes interesting admission on guns

The Gotham Gazette reports on the candidates running for Manhattan District Attorney.

Democratic nominee Alvin Bragg makes this interesting admission:

“… Bragg spoke about taking a nuanced approach to prosecuting gun crimes, citing certain instances of illegal possession where individuals should not be prosecuted. “My dad had a gun when I was young. It was unlawful, but it was to protect our home. I had him turn it in when he was 65. He was not a public safety risk. My position [on gun prosecution] are nuanced. They are born out of real experiences, both in the courtroom and personal that marry fairness and public safety,” Bragg said …”

While it falls well short of a full endorsement, this is the most 2A positive statement I can ever recall seeing from a NYC-area Democrat candidate running for any office.

Huh? No criticism of you, though.

They guy "had" his father turn in his firearm at age 65 and that's a somewhat 2A-positive statement? What's positive about that? The fact that he didn't call the police to arrest his father instead?

By his personal history, this guy will allow you to turn in your firearms before he sends his jackboots to collect them by force.

They guy "had" his father turn in his firearm at age 65 and that's a somewhat 2A-positive statement? What's positive about that? The fact that he didn't call the police to arrest his father instead?

True, but at least he's taking the approach of not making people outright criminals for wanting firearms. He may still want them taken away, which is still horrible, but he's made a move in the right direction towards decriminalizing ownership and features.

I'm just shocked that any NYC Democrat is saying anything remotely pro-gun. Yes his statements weren't a ringing endorsement of the Second Amendment but I'll take what I can get.

Seriously? If you were a real conservative Republican, would you waste your time and money running for elected office in NYC?

I’d be curious to know what changed at 65 that his father no longer needed self protection? Would he have turned a “blind eye” if it were his or his father’s neighbor who owned the gun instead ? I’ll take a leap of faith and say “ I’ll bet not”

This is the first time a black NYC Democrat acknowledged guns for self-defense.. That is a step forward. It is noticeably different than what other electeds are saying.
