Brass Cleaning

When I first got into reloading I read up on the different ways to clean brass. I decided to go with ultrasonic for a few different reasons. Anyways my brass always turned out nice but not the sparkling clean of wet tumbling. No big deal up until I decided to use 9mm brass to cover up the screw holes one my glamour reloading bench. So as some of you saw in the "what did you get today" thread I grabbed some "brass juice". Needless to say I am now a believer. Not only did my brass turn out shiny as hell it took almost half the time it would take me doing my normal way. I think the big advantage to this is if you went tumble with pins this should eliminate the need for the pins.

Hmmmm.....I switched from dry (crushed walnut in vibratory tumbler) to wet (steel pins, Dawn soap, Lemishine) and I've been really impressed with the results. I "spin wet separate" (water in bottom half of media separator) the pins and then magnetically collect stray pins before drying. I'd certainly be interested in trying this Brass Juice product without pins.

After reading/watching reviews I see they recommended using distilled water. If that's the case it's not so cheap. @MilesTeg did you use distilled water?

No I didnt, just hot tap water. Mind you that brass still has the primers in it. O wasn't sure how well it would work with that added gunk. I should also note it only took a half batch to fill my cleaner. So the equates to 1 table spoon per batch.

Another added bonus was I posted the picture from the "what did you get today" thread on Instagram and the owner of the company immediately contacted me. We discussed his product and some other gun related stuff.

I bought some used 222 Remington brass that was really dirty. I tumbled it it walnut hull and it was still crappy looking.
They were dull looking and had dark grime on the end where the bullet goes in.


I bought some brasso, wiped them down and tumbled them in corn Cobb media, it turned out to be the best looking brass I ever tumbled, shines like gold.


I will be taking off work today and will wipe some more brass with brasso & tumble it. I like shiny new looking brass. It is better looking then new brass.

Guys say brasso will make the brass brittle, one wipe then tumbled won't make that much of a difference in the longevity of the brass.

One of the other big differences is this only took 16 minutes to come out looking like that. So for me the time savings is a big deal.

I'd be a little leery of using Brasso. It contains ammonia which causes brass to become brittle.

Ammonia will dissolve the copper out of brass.

I've been using a cheap Harbor Freight tumbler with Dawn and Lemishine only and my brass is done in an hour and just as shiny as the OP's brass. I think steel pins are over rated w/the exception of cleaning out the primer pockets. For rifle ammo I just spin the little RCBS wire pocket cleaner if I care enough.

That's the benefit of this stuff it will clean the pocket without media. Prior to this I used wash and wax car soap and lemishine. It worked well just not as good as this stuff.

What media are you using?

Water, a little squirt of dawn and 1/4 teaspoon (ballpark) lemishine. Tumble for an hour and its all done. I decap first in hopes of getting primer pockets a little clean.

I don't get pins stuck in the flashole this way.
