Anyone that thinks the crime rate is going down needs to take a look at local lockups. They are filled.

One of the reasons they are so full, is because they are running out of prisons to send them to in NY State.

Crime is absolutely not decreasing. On the contrary, crime is on the rise. I see it each and every day.

These people cannot be fixed, the best solution, well, maybe the best, is to lock them up for a very, very long time.

There is a serious enemy among us. They are not the same as you and I. They have no wants to be good people.

Unless a special case is involved, a pretrial inmate can only be housed in the County of the crime.

The local/county jails are over flowing due to constraints of the State.

The more State facilities close, the more inmates are housed locally. That costs the local residents more and more.

Inmates going to fewer prisons should cost less overall. Less building expenses etc. Ie. More inmates per square foot.

Unless that isn't what's happening? If you're already convinced of a crime and in a state prison, you cant be sent to a local jail can you? At least that's my understanding on that one - they'd have to go to another state prison.

Problem is they are letting more people go free rather than put them in prison. They will plea bargain violent felonies down to keep people out of prison. It also has to do with race, and the left working harder to lower the black prison population for more votes, to keep more power, etc...

When they closed Beacon CF, what?, 6 or so years ago, they winterized the pipes, removed all the florescent light bulbs, threw away all the furniture and removed the fuel tanks. At the same time, some other company was in wiring the buildings for high speed internet and wifi

I have spent many an hour driving through the hinterlands of NY State.
Prisons, Highway Departments, SUNY, and State Police biggest employers in rural NY.
Since we have eliminated crime, prisons can be removed from the list.

When I started in Law Enforcement, Stealing over $50.00 was a felony. One day they changed it to $250 and just like that, felony crime was reduced.

It isn't just developmentally handicapped - there is a fairly large population of very dangerous people - either because they really are "criminally insane" or played the system to get declared so and, thus, get an ADK vacation in The 'Hood rather than Dannemora.

When you "donate" to them and they win, you get contracts. The work is not important because it's all about the contract, and you had better not forget to donate to the politician that got you the contract after you get the contract payment for the contract.

Are they? Based on below it just seems like more efficient use of tax money. I'm for that. Prisoners being moved to other facilities. Not released.

Just watched local news. Police arrested 3 people for a series of cigarette robberies from gas stations. How did they catch them? They simply checked to see if the crew that robbed 20 locations last year were out of prison. Guess what - they were right!

So we're closing prisons and letting robbers out after a year. What could go wrong?

And people wonder why I own guns. Brace yourselves because crime is going to explode in the not too distant future.

How many of those people clogging up the local jails should realistically have still been in prison for their *last* crime ?

If they kept them in prison, they wouldn't be around to reoffend.

You can be sent back down to the County and local jails if you catch another charge while in State Prison.

The problem in NY State, as well as many States; most of the individual prisons are small. They are closing too many of them though. Crime is actually on a serious rise.
