DA claims they refused to appear because the judge tossed most of the evidence and denied a request for an additional 30 days to prepare for trial.

There seems to be a long list of complaints over the last 2 years on a number of cases involving this judge (a former accident / personal injury lawyer who ran unopposed) from the DA office, police union officials, and the NYSP.

Judges do this all the time. My town does it if you request a jury trial. I guess they can’t be bothered. A fun case with convicted felony possession of and sales of guns was dismissed. He was mentally ill, violent, and a felon. He also sold them directly to a cop.

And, regardless of how bad the judge might be, by not showing up the responsibility falls directly on the DA.

He should at least have made the attempt.
