U.S. Attorney James Kennedy announced that 55-year-old Patrick Carlineo was arrested and charged with threatening to assault and murder a United States official.
Assistant U.S. Attorney Brett Harvey says according to a criminal complaint, on March 21, a phone call was received by a staff member for Minnesota Congresswoman Ilhan Omar.
During the call, officials say Carlineo said to the staff member, "Do you work for the Muslim Brotherhood? Why are you working for her, she's an (expletive) terrorist. I'll put a bullet in her (expletive) skull".
After receiving the call, the threat was referred to the United States Capitol Police, Threat Assessment Section, who began an investigation in coordination with the FBI.
Carlineo made an initial appearance Friday afternoon before a federal judge in Rochester. He is being held pending a detention hearing on April 10.
The complaint is the result of an investigation by the Federal Bureau of Investigation, under the direction of Special Agent-in-Charge Gary Loeffert, and the United States Capitol Police, under the direction of Matthew R. Verderosa.
RATHBONE, N.Y. (WENY) -- The Western New York Division of the Federal Bureau of Investigation has confirmed to WENY News that one person was taken into custody in Rathbone after an investigation Friday morning.
Officials tell WENY News they cannot release the name of the suspect or the charges they are facing until they make an appearance in court, which is scheduled to happen later today in Rochester.
