Go and rent a gun in NJ. Why would you bother to deal with the possible bullshit harassment that will get thrown at you should you be pulled over for transporting a gun through state lines of the 2 most screwed states of the union. Legal or not. Your call.

not sure about NJ but the law in NY is if you get pulled over while you have your firearm in the vehicle, you are to inform the officer immediately. Is this not true?

I remember going for my permit about 7 years ago and reading in the manual (westchester county) that if I were to be pulled over on my way with my gun in my trunk I was to inform the officer immediately. I always remembered that for some reason.

What they write in those booklets are not in the Penal Laws.

In Orange County, the paper they gave me said that there was no carry in places that serve alcohol. That's definitely not true as well.
