When have you changed so many parts of a gun that it isn't the same gun anymore?
Last year a bought a 10/22 that was on sale at Dick's. I immediately began to switch out parts. eventually, I had replaces every part accept the receiver and bolt. The stock, trigger group, barrel, and all the other fiddly-bits have been replaced. I eventually, just bought a new receiver and reconstructed the factory stock 10/22.
I put all the upgraded parts on the new Brownells BRN-22R. It has some slightly improved features, an integrated scope rail and an access hole in the rear of the receiver run a rifle-rod from the chamber end. I'm kind of conflicted about the integrated rail. I won't be able to mount a 20 MOA rail.
I took the rifle out to "the quarry" to shoot the dueling tree a 100 yards. I was disappointed with the result. I blame the CCI blazers. They seem to lose their mjo at about 75 yards. I really only bought the stuff for 25 yard plinking and carbine practice at 15 yards. But, the semiautomatic rifle is a little hungry. I was hesitant to fill it with higher grade ammo. I'll brink CCI SV next time to see if I can stretch the legs.
Stats:
Brownwells BRN-22R "10/22"
Green Mountain 18-inch fluted heavy barrel
Ruger BX Trigger
Volquartsen Extractor, Firing pin
Magpul Hunter X-22 Stock
Magpul M-lock Bipod
Nikon Prostaff P3 4-18x40 BDC*
I have the same scope on my CZ 455, but with the M-RAD reticle. I prefer the M-RAD reticle. The BDC reticle is useless for estimating elevation changes. Between that and the 0 MOA rail, this rifle will be limited to bench shooting up-to 100 yards. Still, it is a lot of fun to shoot. I've never done a proper range report for it. I keep getting distracted by other things.
Here is photo of the OG Ruger 10/22 carbine in it's reconstituted glory together will the big-brother Ruger American 308. If you can't tell, I really love the Magpul stock.
Yes, those are Tech-sights. They are awesome. I use the rifle to shoot at the Local Pistol Range (Safeshoot in Kingston). I usually shoot about 100 rounds of 9mm through the PC-9 and then switch to the 10/22 for some cheap practice shooting off-hand.
