When she says "post crisis reforms," she's talking about the 2008 Great Recession that gave us the leviathan Dodd/Frank banking and financial bill that has been an utter failure in terms of fixing our currency and the so-called banking and financial "industry." Unless of course we understand that the point of Dodd/Frank was not to fix the system of fiat money, but to cement it into law and perpetuate our national bankruptcy.

When she talks about how "deregulation may have gone too far," she's talking bullshit and unicorn farts. What deregulation is she talking about? Markets, banking, trade, money changing, investment, and all aspects of our economy are very highly regulated and supposedly have stringent governmental "oversight" so that this shit "never happens again." It has been and will continue to be an utter failure for as long as the Federal Reserve exists and we have fiat, worthless money printing and/or fake digital zeros in front of and behind the decimal points that supposedly tally up our "wealth" and "balance sheets" somewhere in computers in the bowels of Leviathan.

What she's really saying is, "We're sticking to Keynsian economics and adding more of it until the system finally collapses and we can implement a cashless society."

As far as repairing "the cracks in the regulatory perimeter that recent shocks have revealed," I think this picture is appropriate:

China's economy is a fairy tale. Japan is broke. I am missing something here. I can understand the flight of deposits out of regional banks into the larger "too big to fail" banks. But why would people take their money out of these big banks and put them into money market funds where there is NO federal insurance (unless I am missing something).

Is this a sign that people believe money market funds with no government backing are actually safer than banks with a government guarantee?

I'm not sure if we have enough information. I'm not sure if I have a fucking clue.

Someone probably does though lol.

My guess is smaller savers and investors, mostly those who are moving funds that are for their retirement, are spreading their money around so that their deposits are covered by the FDIC 250k limit. Perhaps the initial move to the larger banks was nothing more than a bit of breathing space so they could figure out their next step, and to avoid the possibility of losing their bets in the immediate "crisis." Once they "safely" parked their liquid assets in the big bank, they went looking for options where they could park 250k chunks of their wealth and be covered by the FDIC limit. Having your fortune in a big bank is no guarantee as a safe haven, at least in IMO.

As far as people parking liquid assets in money markets, I'm thinking we are talking about people with more than just a million or two to manage. 250k FDIC guarantee doesn't mean much if you've got 10s of millions to keep an eye on. These folks are not just looking for a safe haven, they are looking for a safe haven with returns. Lots of people are chasing the bouncy ball to beat inflation, grow their wealth by accepting the risk, diversifying their portfolios, getting in on the next wave, buying the dip, whatever. If people think they an grow their "wealth" by a fair amount more than the protection of a mere 250k FDIC guarantee, they're likely to accept more risk in that direction than simply parking their funds in a bank.

One of the funny things about all of this is the fact that the powers that be came out and were talking about guaranteeing ALL deposits, $18 trillion worth at the time.

Which leads me to the question: If all deposits might be backstopped by the Fed and Treasury, what is the panic about? I know that backstopping all deposits was not even at the "double pinky swear" level of a promise, but it was certainly a trial balloon and a signal to investors. I mean, a full backstop of ALL deposits eliminates the risk, right? LOL

Perhaps wealthy people simply don't trust the Federal Reserve and the Treasury (i.e., the government) to actually stem the tide if "necessary." Perhaps that backstop was a suggested promise to entice people to cross the rainbow bridge again to find that next pot of gold.

Wealthy people must know that "paper" assets are extremely vulnerable in the fiat money printing system. Maybe they are moving liquid assets that are backed by something more than a promise, or to safer jurisdictions, whether foreign or domestic?

Frankly the whole ponzi scheme at a fundamental level baffles me. I look at something like playing Black Jack or Poker as something that at least has quantifiable odds and risks, defined rules, and better means to gauge whether or not you have a winning hand.

Investing often seems to me to be akin to trying to gauge which way the wind is blowing on any given day, something that depends a lot on trends and the latest "news" and "movements," what's hot and what's not, or supposedly so either way, etc., not on any rules that are hard and fast.

Fiat "money" that is nothing more than slips of paper or zeros in some computer is not true wealth to my mind. I don't think its a very safe means of transaction any longer, because I don't see it as a store to value, or a true medium of exchange.

Chase is the biggest US bank. They don't have a single competent corporate officer, attorney, private investigator, analyst, or any other employee who doesn't have his head up his ass to, you know, confirm that what they were buying was a legit business with the customer data base they claimed to have?

BEFORE buying it for 175 million? LOL

That doesn't pass the sniff test, and it certainly doesn't instill confidence that Chase is the bank you want to run off to with your recently withdrawn deposits.

It ought to be noted that Chase has been charged and convicted in felony cases of financial chicanery over the years, and paid millions in fines to "pay" for their crimes.

Banksters is the most appropriate turn of phrase I've ever heard to describe these robber barons.

I can testify to the stupidity at these big banks. Years ago I worked for a database marketing company. We pitched a department of chase. Database marketing is essentially using information to focus on the people most likely to respond to your offer. The cardinal sin in the industry is mailing all of your customers precisely because it is a waste of money. So what did one of these geniuses at this big, super smart bank want to do? You got it, they wanted to mail something to all customers. This idiot flunked marketing 101 but was a decision maker at the bank!

Being big and rich allows for a level of stupidity to creep in and it covers a lot of mistakes. I am 100% opposed to enlarging the deposit insurance program to cover uninsured deposits. I also don't believe in the too big to fail concept. I guarantee you that one or more of these banks will cause an economic calamity.

I don't give a flying fuck WHY they're putting it into money markets, but the flow itself is a sort of "guerrilla' finance.

Anyone with $$$$ in any bank, other than that necessary to pay immediately upcoming bills, is a fucking moron.

Keep that $$$ in a shoebox if necessary - at least until the Fed.Gov shitweasels bring in CBDC, which they will.
