As others have said, not unheard of.
Hudson Valley area, some people in the Town of Newburgh are paying 12-18k just for taxes.
I was paying ~$5200/yr for my 1664 ft² house on a quarter acre. BUT....I hadn't been reassessed in over 20 years. I would bet that the new owners are paying twice that.
