OP see what happens when you ask a serious question on this page........ I am sorry.
Around 1k give or take for both the action and barrel. Which I'm thinking of getting a mcmillan stock now. What is the budget?
Just for fun, is the RPR even in the same class at the Bergara or tikka?
You don't even listen to what the man said. You just want to offer up your own opinion. He wants to build a rifle off an ACTION. I'm offering him a way to get started without spending money on something that can't grow with him (i.e. your plan). Why is the Magpul stock a POS? Cause it's a $350 system so it can't possibly be good? Right. I also never said this stock is going to win you world titles. But it will get him started and allow him to learn the sport without blowing 1.5k on a rifle he'll chuck once he gets serious. That's how DD and BCM sells rifles too. 'A custom built $1200 AR cant possibly be better than our factory machined, mass produced $1800 rifles!' Good gear. But wayyyy overpriced in a market full of great options. You and YOU alone introduced that piece of shit stock to the discussion, thanks for playing.
I've no "anti-Rem" bias, I just know their quality control stinks when compared to a Tikka or Bergara.
Tell me again about Accuracy International, not often we get a mall ninja like yourself offering up such amazing tips.
I have no experience with either. I am a Rem 700 guy so I just upgrade that platform to what I want.
MPA is just more modular cause it can be built more to you. Bergara, is the "new" Savage BA, RPR factor PR. Tikkas are similar. But they're all more expensive to start, and they arent built for you, the individual. Once you have the 700 action, you can do whatever you want with it. If you catch DSG at the right time, they run a R700 ADL special for under $400 after a rebate. That's cheaper than buying an action off Brownells with the transfer fee not even included, and you can sell the stock trigger, barrel, and stock to recoup some more cash. You also just have more options, and thus while pricey, still cheap as you have diversity of choice.@wdeister08 and the rest of the gang. I forgot about masterpiece arms. So now I got three to choose from, bergara, tikka, and masterpiece arms. What do you think? Which one ?
All I see is things getting more more expensive. I have all their masterpiece arms firearms. I like them. I like the owner. I have met him several times. Is his stuff that much better than the previous mention two?
I don’t want to build it. I apologize for the original poster, if I stole his thread.
There's so many companies now that offer quality truing/blueprinting it's amazing. Midwest Gunworks will true and install a barreled action you provided for under $400. Hard to beat.I have no experience with either. I am a Rem 700 guy so I just upgrade that platform to what I want.
My gunsmith did mine during the rebarreling for no extra charge. There's so many companies now that offer quality truing/blueprinting it's amazing. Midwest Gunworks will true and install a barreled action you provided for under $400. Hard to beat.

Not required, the original Remington extractor in the stock bolt works just fine. If I was going to change the bolt face for a different case head, I would have ordered a PT&G bolt with that feature. I see no point in changing something that isn't necessary for accuracy (or broken) if it still works as it is supposed to.That is nice. Did he also mill the bolt and change the extractor?
I have a bias against factory rifles like the RPR and Bergara cause as a lefty they don't make a rifle for me. Savage does, but your lack of options suffers compared to R700, though it's getting better. The Bergara is a remington 700 action but the way it should be done from factory.
-Integrated recoil lug just like a surgeon
-Side bolt release
-Claw extractor with a 50 degree angle. Even better than badger ordenance or Sako extactor.
-All perfectly timed and blue printed from factoy
-True Match trigger. They are actually partnered with Timmey.
-Barrels are made with shilen barrel technoology. Also partners with shilen.
But look at the tikka even the savage PRS and predator(not XP version)
Why would anyone want to blueprint a rifle?
I mean if you have it already and are rebarreling anyway is one thing but otherwise will never get
the money back and features and performance of a more modern action.

Agreed it does start adding up, but I assume once he's serious (if he ever gets there) those costs will be acceptable to him. Also at that point - defiance, surgeon, etc become acceptable purchases anyway. There's so many choices and directions one could go. I figure outta the box works for him, obviously, but I was looking more from the prospective of purchasing something he can grow with as he becomes more into it. He also gets the benefit of having it built to him way more, than a outta the box setup can be at first. There's so many companies that CLAIM to do quality work, but in truth don't.
How much for a rebarrel, cut the chamber, crown, cap and thread, & bolt work?
Your $400 figure is not an honest depiction of the costs.
Add up the cost of the action, your new trigger, a barrel, gunsmith charges for doing the work.
The TRUE cost of fully upgrading a Remington is well upwards of $1500 depending on components, BEFORE you stock it.
That really depends upon who your friends are. There's so many companies that CLAIM to do quality work, but in truth don't.

Not the best stock, but for $750 it's a good starter rifle in my opinion.
Savage 10BA STEALTH 6.5mm CREEDMOOR

I like my Savage Model 10 FCP-SR and Model 12LRP though, the accustock on the Model 10 sucks IMO I am going to change that to a B&C one day soon. Another thing I have to get used to is that accutrigger, I keep missing the blade and have to reset the bolt in order to shoot. Those may get swapped for Timneys one day.Not the best stock, but for $750 it's a good starter rifle in my opinion.

I am also not a chassis guy so the B&C stock with or without an adjustable cheek piece works for me.
Apparently not every precision rifle builder does since, I didn't have mine replaced. Never had that problem, I have 1100 rounds through it and it is still working. The first thing a precission rifle builder replaces is the remington factory extractor. If one doens't shoot enough then the factory
extractor might work but otherwise it will fail. Perhaps not a big deal unless one is competing or facing a trophy hunt.
They have a mail in rebate going on.Maybe another link? The link above says $900+
