HI, folks. Quarantine has got me restless, and we just had our first child, so I wanna start a project.
I’d like to put together a featureless AR with a Thordsen stock. I’ve shot my friend’s, and didn’t mind the ergonomics, plus I want to retain the ability to change mags/reload without pulling the rifle apart. He has since modified his rifle with a spur grip, which I can’t stand.
It would be for fun. I have a PC Carbine for in close fun, some lever actions for cowboy fun, and now I want a mid-distance 5.56, low powered optic for fun.
The problem is I don’t know where to start.
Are there any guidelines/resources for building a featureless AR?
Which sites do you recommend for acquiring parts? On the subject of parts: is there a master list of parts I need?
What is typically sold in kits?
Which Thordsen stock do you like best? Why?
How much should I expect to spend on a first build? Note: I like quality, but it doesn’t have to be “match-grade.”
What is worth buying used, and what am I better off sourcing brand new?
Any other tips or resources would be greatly appreciated. Stay safe and healthy!
