A few days ago, a work associate asked me if I'd ever heard of a bullpup pistol. I said, "Huh? What is a 'bullpup pistol?'" He pointed me to the Boberg XR9: Boberg Arms is Now The Bond Arms Bullpup - The Smallest Most Powerful Personal Protection You Can Carry
Upon further reading, I found that Bond Arms acquired the XR9 to make their Bond Bullpup 9mm: Home - Bond Bullpup - Bond Arms Bullpup
I started doing some reading and I must say that I was intrigued by this pistol. I like the concept that would shift the grip of the pistol towards the muzzle while maintaining barrel length. This would, as reviewers confirmed, decrease the muzzle flip and make follow-up shots faster to get on target.
BUT...when I reviewed some of the internals, I decided that at this time such a pistol would never be more than a range toy. The rearward pulling "claw" that removes rounds from the back of the magazine just adds too many more moving parts to fail in a defensive firearm. Whereas Glock led the charge towards pistol simplicity, the Boberg XR9 seems to move the needle in the opposite direction.
I'd certainly like to try one of these pistols. But, the current price point of over $1,000 makes it a novelty on which I'm going to have to take a pass.
Anybody ever seen or tried a pistol like this?
