Walmart Gun Policy​

As it stands, Walmart allows the concealed carry of weapons at their stores in accordance with state laws. This means that as long as you are acting in accordance with the laws of your state, you can conceal carry a weapon while shopping at Walmart.

However, even in states that allow open carry, Walmart shoppers are not allowed to open carry firearms at Walmart under any circumstances.

Open Carry of Firearms​

Motivated by our desire to create a safe environment in our stores and clubs, we request that customers no longer openly carry firearms into Walmart or Sam’s Club locations in states where open carry is permitted – unless they are authorized law enforcement. As of September 2019, we are working to create and display new signage to help communicate this policy.



We will continue to follow state and local laws regarding concealed carry permit holders.

That’s just a request and I see the law as the same as you that Walmart allows guns and it’s legal to carry there in NYS. They are giving you expressed consent.

There was a psychic store on main st in Beacon (Dutchess County) that had a guns welcome sign. I wish I’ve taken a picture quite an interesting find in such a liberal city.

§ 265.01-d Criminal possession of a weapon in a restricted location. 27 1. A person is guilty of criminal possession of a weapon in a 28 restricted location when such person possesses a firearm, rifle, or 29 shotgun and enters into or remains on or in private property where such 30 person knows or reasonably should know that the owner or lessee of such 31 property has not permitted such possession by clear and conspicuous 32 signage indicating that the carrying of firearms, rifles, or shotguns on 33 their property is permitted or has otherwise given express consent.

Its funny how the NYS attorney general, Letitiaiaia James has this worded on their website. If you cannot read between the lines, you may think this is still the law.
Instead of saying that part of the law is suspended, they say businesses still have the right to not allow firearms by posting a sign. That has been the law sisne 1787!
