Once again another article that lacks important info. It says nothing about a warrant to search because of large ammo purchases. There's no law that limits the amount purchased even though they're trying for that. This guy screwed himself by posting gun pictures online which is stupid when you live in a communist state. That still shouldn’t automatically grant a search warrant unless the picture shows that the individual and weapon is in NY. Suppose he took the picture in PA or VT where they're still allowed to have real guns? Was there a warrant or was this guy dumb enough to not keep his mouth shut when he got a visit from the gesstapo? If you link to the original article it does say there was an investigation into illegal guns but no specifics ate given.

It is clear this guy was an idiot for posting on social media. But what triggered the investigation is what puzzles me. A dealer was concerned the guy was buying too much ammo? There is no law on how much anmo someone can have last I checked. How much was "too much"? 500-1,000rds a week? Most places, even big box stores wouldn't be able to keep up selling that much (assuming it was just 223). This is one of those stories that isn't whole. The ammo seller musta seen the social media feed and that was his cue to call...not too much ammo, no way.

sounds like a FFL trying to be a "good guy" to the ATF and DA's, so the ATF doesn't show up with 50 SWAT members in full battle gear to take his FFL and all his inventory and shut him down.

And this guy posting shit on social media was brilliant. It's why I almost never post pictures of anything I own.

I agree posting pics of firearms on social media is unwise. That said, I’d really like to see this FFL outed so everyone can make informed decisions as to who they do business with.

This place let me down this time. Of all the jackwagons, screwballs, nut jobs, and myriad collections of misfits, morons and moonbats on the web, *THIS* one hasn’t even considered that the fuzz are falsely reporting that the FFL rang the guy up in an effort to sew dissent, fear, uncertainty and doubt among the ranks of dirty gun owners? I bet $2 that the FFL didn’t call this in and the po-po is just trying to get him canceled. Well done. It’s working.

He was convicted, IN FEDERAL COURT, of having a SBR...bbl less than 16".
Ghost guns are legal Federally, but not with 80%.

Since 80%, via the NYSP in Marcy,NY, monitor the internet for sex crimes and any gun crimes, they knew the guy had purchased bad items WHEN THEY WERE LEGAL BEFORE GHOST GUN BAN.

IT WAS IN 2019 THAT 80% SENT LETTERS TO PALMETTO, ETC....How did she know? NYSP monitor all emails and gunsales possible on you for quite a while.........beware.

There are many gunshops not near Moravia that he may have gone to...Southern Herkimer County and then westerly to Jamestown..guy was probably clever..

But an alert..from NYSP or Feds, likely went out to possible FFL's naming this guy......cops are clever too....all they needed was a tiny bit of sales info...and the info .from a loose lipped "friend".

Only the people at Area 51 can keep a secret.............

Threatening an FFL will do it..."tell us about this guy's ammo purchases"..."well he bought some ammo"..totally legal.
But it and a wellness check, was what they used to raid the guy...Why would this guy buy ammo in Jamestown?.Might have ended up as an illegal search, but he already plead guilty to get less time.

I traveled the finger Lakes area for many years. Moravia is not that far from Ithaca or Cortland or Binghamton.. I suspect that the fellow did not buy ammo near home at all.

Just generally disgusted by this thread. Nothing in the article about a wellness check. A sworn fed complaint said a gun store reported the 19-year-old for buying a lot of ammo over months. Maybe there was something else going on, maybe not. But that's what got this rolling. He and the elder Hollenbeck were both arrested based off the search and the elder Hollenbeck is the doing 41 months in the federal pen for having a rifle with a barrel a few inches too short. From the photo it appears to have a stock and not a brace on it, though who knows what configuration it was found in. The elder Hollenbeck didn't buy a lot of ammo or post anything to Instagram (legal activities), he was just related to the youth who did.

Apparently just another gun builder who may have broke a few unconstitutional laws and is now facing 41 months in prison and losing his firearm rights forever.
